  • Go into Forms Mode.
  • In the left column choose the Schedule C Worksheet (not the Sched C itself).  It may be abbreviated "Sch C wks".
  • On the Schedule C Worksheet scroll down to the miscellaneous expenses section (other, Part V).  Edit that section (if needed) to reflect your current miscellaneous expenses.  Something may have transferred in from last year that you don't need this year so it keeps asking  you for a value.
  • Once you have cleaned up that section on the Schedule C Worksheet, then look at the step-by-step interview at the "other miscellaneous expenses" section to be sure it is correctly reported there as well with no duplications, etc.; i.e., that it flowed correctly from the worksheet to the interview.

Again, do not edit that section on the Schedule C itself.   If you try, the values may not stick or may not transfer correctly to the interview.  Editing can be performed on the Sch C Worksheet and then verified that it then matches the interview.

ADDENDUM

If the above steps don't resolve your issue, go into Forms Mode again, and this time look at the actual Schedule C itself, Part V, miscellaneous expenses.   Is there any item there on the actual Schedule C that transferred in from last year that isn't needed this year, or any duplicate entry?  i.e., something that wasn't shown on the Schedule C Worksheet?   If so, you can try and see if it will let you remove it directly on the Schedule C.    If it won't let you, go back to the Sch C Wks or interview and step through to see if you can find it.

Ultimately, everything in all 3 places has to match--the Sched C Worksheet, the Sch C itself, and the interview.

Help!!

The Online version of TurboTax keeps looping on

Schedule C (Rideshare Driving) - Schedule C Worksheet: Amount - Misc Exp Other must be entered.

Amount - Misc Exp Other...

I've entered 0, 100, 1000 and it keeps looping. It did this last year, too. I finally gave up and had to actually mail in both my Fed and State tax forms.  Yuck.

Is there any way around this?

In the desktop version I know how to correct things in the Sched C, Part V "other misc expenses" section by comparing the Sched C Worksheet to the actual Sched C and correcting anything on the Sched C Worksheet.   However, Online TurboTax does not have Forms Mode.

A problem in that Sched C, Part V, section often arises from something that transferred in from last year.  So there could be an item showing on Sched C that does not have a value for it.    I don't know where you are trying to make the entry.    If you are trying to do it in a popup "error check" page, instead go to the online Schedule C interview, and walk through the "other miscellaneous expenses" section and see if there is a line item that populated from last year without a value or any other item that might be there by mistake.   If you need that item, try reentering the value there.    If you see a line item in that section that you don't need on this return, then delete the item description to hopefully fully remove it.

I'll also see if one of the TurboTax Experts has anything to add.  @ DawnC  are you familiar with correcting Sched C "other miscellaneous expenses" in the Online version that may have transferred in from last year, or something else that may have created a value-less entry?  Thanks!
