Sched C not needed Schedule 1 for 1099MISC

In the past I have been able to include this as other income, submit a sched 1 where I define no other reuqirement for business or other expenses (NO SCHED C).  Now it asks for Sched C or F and neither applies.  They increased the list of OTHER to several categories and still nothing applies except OTHER.  HOW DO YOU GET IT ON LINE 8Z

To enter your 1099-MISC as other income in TurboTax follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your TurboTax account if it is not open.
  2. Select the Wages & Income tab.
  3. Scroll down to Less common income click Show more.
  4. On the page Let's Work on Any Miscellaneous Income click on Other reportable income.
  5. On the page Any Other Taxable Income?  select yes.
  6. On the page, Other Taxable Income enter 1099-MISC for the description and the amount.
  7. Select continue and answer No on the next page.

TurboTax will no longer insist that  a Link to Schedule C or another form is  needed

Sched C not needed Schedule 1 for 1099MISC

This is not working according to your instructions.  It specifically says not to enter income reported on a 1099 MISC when I use your method and the other income described there does not support what this MISC is for.  I want this income to show up on line  8 of 1040 and perhaps a schedule one should accompany the filing with it showing up on line 8Z this year.  Technically I would make adjustments of the same amount in part 2 of this Sched 1 but that seems like it would raise a flag.  I can add it into deductions and take deductions if needed.

The process has changed and there is a glitch where you can not bypass a sched C...even though there is a OTHER INCOME circle (see below)..... this income is paid on behalf of the tax payer for health insurance premium.  There is no work and no business expense or any such material participation IMG_1079.JPG.

this is the error when I enter this misc income

To clear the error message, you must answer the questions that follow the entry screen for the 1099-MISC. On the screens that follow, you will also be able to get to the correct screen so that your 1099-MISC income will be allocated to Other Income correctly.

Please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open or continue your return, if you're not already in it.
  2. Search for 1099-misc and select the Jump-to link.
  3. Edit your 1099-MISC.
  4. Continue past the amounts already entered.
  5. Describe the reason for this 1099-MISC.
  6. Answer Does one of these uncommon situations apply?
  7. Answer Did this involve work that's like my main job?
  8. Answer How often did you get this income?
  9. Answer Did this involve an intent to earn money?
  10. Answer the remaining on-screen questions.

Next, please confirm your 1099-MISC went to Other Income on your 1040.

  1. Click on Tax Tools on the left hand side.
  2. Click on Tools.
  3. Click on View Tax Summary.
  4. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left hand side.
  5. Search for Schedule 1 - Additional Income & Adjustments to Income.
  6. A description of your Other Income and the amount should be listed in Line 8z

If a Schedule C was populated, please delete any Schedule C forms or associated self-employment forms in your return.

  1. Search for Schedule C with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page.
  2. Select the Jump to Schedule C link in the search results.
  3. Select No to the question Did you have any self-employment income or expenses?
  4. Click on Tools.
  5. Click on Delete a Form
  6. Scroll down to your forms and look for Schedule C and Schedule SE and click Delete

Once complete, your error message should be cleared.

Sched C not needed Schedule 1 for 1099MISC

I was able to use the very first method you suggested to get the other income on line 8 and a schedule 1 with Line 8z.  It was unusual as this has changed drastically and now instead of this showing up in MISC income (which I guess is Sched C related business income) it shows up in other income and is placed in relation to 1099 A and C?  It seems weird but it seemed to work....I have this income on Line 8 1040 and it shows it in Line 8z on the Schedule 1 which is what I was after.

The other method you suggested did not work as this was what I did to start with using previous years experience.  Unfortunately it gets you to that error message where you cant do much as you can not even fix it.  I have tried it multiple ways and each time using 1099 Misc you are forced into Sch C

Thanks for now as I am hoping it is all clear to the IRS and it seems it is consistent with the process I have used in years prior

Sched C not needed Schedule 1 for 1099MISC

Thank you so much etbdivine1....trying to get a large refund back from the Feds and I was in a never ending do loop with a 1099-misc and Schedule C.  Really appreciated your pointing to me to Schedule 1, line 8Z.  All the best for this tax season.
