I received a 1099-nec from a company I work for I do not own my own business. The company I work for is paid by another company to pay me. The 1099-nec is fine but after that step, they are asking me to fill out a schedule c like I own the business but this is not the case. Im not sure what to do or who to contact.

Hello there, by chance did you get the answer to your question in regards to 1099-NEC? I am having issues as well. I entered the information from the 1099-NEC on my federal. In return my NJ statae is saying I own a buisness and need to fill out NJ-BUS-1 form for profit /loss. I don not own a buisness. I can not get it removed.
Unfortunatly no I just answered like I owned a business even though that is not really the case Im more a contractor for another business its a confusing situation so I just ended up losing most of my refund :( I hope it works better for you. For mine they just had me fill out a form c after the NEC
