If you received a 1099-NEC for work as an elected union officer, yes generally it ishould go under self-employment income. You should report this on Schedule C (Profit or Loss from Business) and pay self-employment taxes, which cover Social Security and Medicare. To enter your Form 1099-NEC in TurboTax:

  1. Open or continue your return. Be sure you logged in for link to work:
  2. Navigate to 1099-NEC:
    • TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to 1099-NEC.
    • TurboTax Desktop: Search for 1099-NEC and select the Jump to link.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions. When you’re done, we’ll ask you a few questions and help you through entering any expenses you may have so that you can reduce your taxable income.
