How do I answer Schedule C, Line H? I had a one-off 1099-NEC in 2023. No business. I no longer plan to be self employed and the work took place for a few days.

Is "neither started nor stopped" the right choice?

You can leave that question blank, since this is the only Schedule C you plan to file for this activity. If you have the choice for "neither started nor stopped," choose this response.

Thanks Patricia!

For further context, I was W2 until June and then had a random few days work later in the year resulting in the 1099-NEC (same field, different employer). This would be my first time ever filing Schedule C. What does the response of "neither started nor stopped" result in?

Thanks for your time.

By using this choice, you are not reporting this as a new business - it has no effect on your return. Next year, you can either use Schedule C again if you need it or delete it when you start your tax return.
