If you were paid cash for some work that you did, it is self-employed income and this income has to be reported on your tax return.
For child tax credit purposes, this is counted as earned income, just like wages you receive as an employee.
You report the income you received in cash, checks or bank transfers or without a 1099-NEC as self-employed income under Other self-employed income.
If you have expenses related to this business, you can deduct them.
To report your business income and expenses, you'll need to use TurboTax Deluxe or TurboTax Self-Employed (Online) if you have expenses to deduct or TurboTax Home and Business (CD/Download).
