1099-NEC

Hi, I received a 1099-NEC from my current employer (I am a full-time employee) for a year-end bonus. Can I report the income on this 1099-NEC form as other income and not self-employment income?  Will I get myself in trouble if I do so? Thanks a lot!

There are boxes you can mark on the 1099-NEC entry screen to indicate the income is not self-employment.  On the follow-up questions, you will be asked about any uncommon situations that apply.

If you mark the box that says this should have been reported on a w-2, TurboTax will report the income as wages, generate Form 8919 and no Schedule C.

The option that says this is hobby or sporadic income and is not self-employment (uncommon) will report the income as Other Income, and not produce Form 8919 or Schedule C.    @Monrovia

Are you a W2 employee of this employer and this is just for the bonus?

Then in that case just report it as other income.

You do not have to do a Schedule C as if you have a business.
