@ brianptfox As you will see, a 2024 return can only be prepared in 2024 desktop software installed on a full computer or laptop--not on a tablet. A 2024 return cannot be efiled. It has to be printed, signed, dated, and mailed. It's recommended to mail by a method that has tracking, such as Priority Mail or certified return receipt, etc. The Federal return is to be mailed to the IRS, and a state return (if applicable) should be mailed to the state tax agency. There should be a Filing Instructions page that will tell you how to do that. If you are due a Federal refund, then approximately 4 weeks after mailing your return, it should start to show up in the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool, where you can monitor it. https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund You can purchase the 2024 software directly from TurboTax at the link provided in a comment above, or you may be able to find it at a discount at an authorized retailer such as Amazon. If buying from Amazon, be sure it is directly from Amazon itself and not a third-party seller. Here are the authorized retailers, but be aware that some only sell the current year (2025) software: https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-product-orders/obtain-authentic-turbotax-programs/L1yYfitCw_US_en_US

From my experience, most Windows app developers seem to go out of their way to continue supporting "deprecated" versions of Windows. There are some fairly hard limits to doing that, e.g. Windows XP is just not worth the extra effort (ignoring the fact that the OS itself is totally insecure at this point). In any case, Windows 10 is not "deprecated". Microsoft is actively supporting it with security updates, and some editions have planned support for another six years. And apart from TurboTax and some Microsoft apps, I'm not aware of a single app that doesn't currently support Windows 10. Almost every app I use in Windows is supported by Windows 7/8/10 (and now 11). EDIT: Turns out that my browser and email client (both Mozilla products) now only support Windows 10 or newer. It will be interesting to see how long it takes Mozilla to try and discontinue Windows 10 support.

are you asking about the ID Turbotax asks for before filing like driver's license or state ID (not your ID PIN)? You should be able to check you don't have any.

if rejected, you can post the rejection code/message in this thread and resubmit. Users of this forum may be able to provide a solution. However, certain reasons for rejection cannot be corrected in which case you'll have to fix your return, if needed, and file by mail following the TurboTax filing instructions.

For TurboTax yes, that ship already left. I'm just wondering how long a reprieve Microsoft will grant us for other apps that really don't care about Windows 11 (like competitors to TurboTax, for those folks that choose that route). I run a lot of apps that really don't care about Windows 10 either; Windows 7 works fine for them as well (though I gave up on that version a long time ago). There's also Compatibility Mode that can be used to workaround the most common issues with older apps. Would be nice if there was a Forward Compatibility Mode hidden in Windows 10 somewhere. 😏

seemingly this OP filed before you. This will make e-filing for you for 2025 impossible. It will have to be mailed. In situations like this, the IRS sends notices to both parties asking to amend. if the OP doesn't, the IRS sends a second notice asking for info to prove you are who you say you are. It will tell you what documents can be submitted. In this case you will have to respond.

it's a deduction not a credit shown on Schedule 1-A Part V line 37. it's automatic based on your age.

@JohnQT It's only a matter of time before you'll need W11, use online, create a VM, or use a pro which to some is as bad as online. You'll notice that the desktop versions no longer support W7 or W8!
