I get the following during REVIEW:   Susanne: The amount of foreign capital gains included in box 52 plus the amounts from boxes 54 and 56 can't be more than the total capital gains in box 52. Additionally, the amount of foreign capital gains included in box 53 plus the amounts from boxes 55 and 57 can't be more than the total capital gains in box 53. Review your entries. Does this make sense?  I presume there can be negative numbers in some of the boxes, or this makes no sense.     Second point: I have lots of T3's.  TurboTax knows or thinks there is an issue with one of them.   But it does not tell me which one.  Does that make sense?    Do need to go through all the T3's to try to find the error?    Cant Turbo just say "Susanne, please check T3 #12 to blah, blah...".  It's not a game.  Turbo knows something is wrong, but does not tell me?   😪   I have spent hours on this issue.     Third Point: Turbo talks about boxes 52, 54, 56, 53, and 57, but does not show them in the summary.  WTF?  Just tell the customer what T3 slip is problematic.   Sheesh.

Good day! First, please make sure that you have purchased the right product. The codes for TurboTax Online will not work with TurboTax Desktop & vice-versa.   Second, if you bought TurboTax at a retailer (Costco, Walmart, Staples, etc…), please make sure that you are using the code that came in the package. It may be on a slip of paper or on a scratch-off card. It is not on the outside of the box or on your receipt.   If you have bought TurboTax Online, please go to turbotax.ca/activate to use your code before you start your returns. You can see this TurboTax FAQ for step-by-step instructions: In TurboTax Online, how do I use a prepayment code? Please note that you can only use the code once in one account. Using the code again will give an error message.   If you have bought TurboTax Desktop, you will be asked for the licence code when you install the software. Please see this TurboTax FAQ for more information on the licence code: Where is my TurboTax licence code? You can download the current version of TurboTax Desktop edition here:  Choose the 2022 TurboTax edition you need (for Windows). You can download older versions of TurboTax Desktop edition here: Where can I download the CD/download edition of TurboTax?   If you are still not able to resolve your code issue, please contact our phone support team at 1-888-829-8608.   Thank you for choosing TurboTax!

Hello, You're right; TurboTax offers tax filing services for married couples. Here's how you can file your taxes jointly with your husband using TurboTax Canada: Start Your Return Sign in to your TurboTax account or create a new one. Click "Start a New Return" or "Add a Return." Enter Your Personal Information:  TurboTax will first ask for your personal details, such as your name, Social Security number, date of birth, and address. Carefully fill in all the required information. Indicate Your Filing Status: When prompted about your marital status, select "Married filing jointly." This is important for filing together. Enter Your Husband's Information: After you've entered your own information, TurboTax will ask for your husband's personal details. This will include his name, Social Security number, date of birth, and other relevant information. When completing your tax filing, you can easily switch to your husband's information using the toggle located at the top of the screen. Both of your names should be visible there. Hope that was helpful

Hi @imacdonald3411 There is not enough information eg: Province you lived in and what product you are using . However, here are few generic reasons why yo maybe owing taxes on income made in 2024 : 1. Insufficient Tax Withholding: Your employer may not have withheld enough federal and provincial taxes from your pay throughout the year, leading to a balance owing when you file your return. 2. Taxable Benefits: If you received any taxable benefits (like a company car or health premiums), they could increase your taxable income, causing more taxes owed. 3. CPP and EI Contributions: You may owe additional Canada Pension Plan (CPP) or Employment Insurance (EI) premiums if they were not fully deducted or if your income surpassed certain thresholds. 4. Missed Tax Credits or Deductions: You might not have claimed all the available credits (like the Basic Personal Amount) or deductions, which could have reduced your taxable income or taxes owed. 5. Additional Income: Any extra income (like freelance or side jobs) that wasn’t reported on a T4 slip could increase your total taxable income, leading to more taxes due. Hope this helps. Thanks !
Thanks for reaching out! I'd start with referring to this guide from the CRA website and confirm that you meet the requirements for this benefit.

Diving deeper into your return, it appears as though when you answered the questions AFTER the 1099-R entries that you selected NO to do you have any IRA's open.  You then have a contribution amount still listed that is greater than your distribution amount reported on the 1099-R.     This leaves you with a loss of $66,637.  ($131,637-$65,000) IF you no longer have ANY IRA open.    If you took a total distribution from your IRA and have no open IRA's, then this loss is correct and you are entitled to a deduction on your NY return in the amount of $66,637 as calculated.  If you DO still have open IRA's, then you would need to amend your return to  note that this is not a loss.  It does not have an affect on your federal return, however it does drastically reduce your state refund meaning you would need to pay back the excess refund you received.  IF you DO still have IRA's open and you  need to amend your return, once you start the amend, you will go to edit next to the 1099-R, walk through all the steps then KEEP going until you come to the question asking if you still have open IRA's. And YES.  Since your amended return would have returned to zero, you should see a tax due amount which is the repayment of the excess refund you received.     How do I amend my state return? @RAYJDEM
