I received this email from TurboTax. I prefer I don't have to do all this BS, just to use a tax software program that I pay around $90 for per year. I like TurboTax, but I guess it is time to look for a different tax software that is not so heavy handed in using their product.

Hi there,

We’re reaching out to our TurboTax Desktop customers to share an important change to how you’ll install and activate your software this upcoming 2023 tax season.

To install and activate TurboTax 2023 on your computer, you’ll be prompted to sign in to your existing Intuit Account (or create an account if you don’t already have one) before entering your license code. The software won't install unless you sign in to your Intuit Account online. Importantly, your product license code can only be associated with one Intuit Account.

Your license code will then be stored in your Intuit Account, should you need to install the software again.

If you forgot your user ID or password, or need additional assistance logging in to your Intuit Account, this article will provide you with helpful steps.

For more information on product installation and activation, go to TurboTaxHelp.com.

Thanks for being part of the TurboTax family.

Warm regards,

The TurboTax Team

Hopefully the new method will solve the problems a lot of people were having.  Like if you installed from the CD you couldn't use the CD again to reinstall or to install on another computer.  And you couldn't use both the CD and download method.  And people who want to install on both Windows and Mac.

There are several updated FAQs like this one,

VolvoGirl,

I have never had a problem with installing on more than one computer. I believe this is instead a move to make it more difficult to install on more than one computer. Previous instructions have been very specific about being able to install up to 5 computers. I believe this is an attempt to prevent that.

TurboTax gets overwhelming demanding for adding feature of PDF statement attachment to eFile.  Such discussions last for so many years.  I echo our community people voices "Why is Turbotax so stubborn in refusing to add this capability.  TaxAct has had this feature for many, many years.   Also I believe that Turbotax Professional version has this feature.  So there is absolutely no technical reason that it can't be implemented."  At high tech era, TurboTax should be doing something to update.

Hey TurboTax. It's January 31, still can't file. This is BS. YOU OWE a bunch of users a free e-file. We use you to make life easier and to file faster. You've let us down. Give us our money back. I smell a class action law suit.

How do feel about having to pay a fee to e file a state return? I have  5  federal returns that I can e file for free. But to e file these returns for NY State Turbo Tax is charging a fee for each one.  Their solution is to print out the state return and mail it.  I have been using Turbo Tax for years and never charged a filing fee. This also sounds like a suit for me.

@GeorgePC1   In the Desktop program it is free to efile a New York return.  That hasn't changed.  You need to call in and find out the problem.  Could you be in the Online version instead of the Desktop program?  Online has a black menu bar down the left side and the Desktop program menu tabs goes across the top.
