Thank you for your reply but you can't take the deduction until the trade or business begins. Nothing was done after the consultant did its feasibility study.

We could not deduct them in year 1 since the trade or business activity did not commence.

What if this is a partnership and these were costs paid to a consultant to determine the viability of the enterprise that they ended up not going through with?
