Can I still file for this exemption and have it applied to my return if I filed already and it was accepted?

After entering my coverage month info I was informed right away that I was exempt from any penalties

I only ask because nothing really changed from last years return aside from a difference of making about 2,500 more this year

When I entered that I didn't have insurance for 2 months I was told that I wouldn't be penalized. Why els would my refund me so much less?
