The software doesn't know when you mailed your tax return, so it will continue to say that. You can check the status of your tax return 4 weeks after you've mailed it, using Wheres my refund. Paper-filers: The IRS asks you wait 4 weeks after you mail your return before looking up your refund at Where's My Refund?

If you already e-filed, then you cannot change to filing by mail, unless it was rejected. If your e-filing was rejected, then please see the following TurboTax FAQ:

An Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) is a 6-digit number that the IRS gives taxpayers who were victims of tax-related identity theft. No problem. You can downgrade using the clear and start over feature. However, you will be required to restart your return. In TurboTax Online, you can erase your return and start from scratch as long as you haven't submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered.
If you haven't already done so, sign in at TurboTax.com and select the blue Take me to my return button.
On the welcome back screen, in the left-side menu, select Tax Tools, and then select Clear & Start Over (click or tap the 3 lines in the upper-left corner if you don't see this menu).
Answer Yes in the pop-up to confirm.

We automatically save your work every time you move to a new screen, in case you lose your connection. Also, when you sign out, your work is automatically saved to our secure servers so you can pick up right where you left off when you sign back in. To save & sign out please select the - my account - at the top of your TurboTax screen and select - save & sign out-. Then when you are ready to return to continue your return please remember to use the same User ID and password as you did when your started your return.
