When going to e-file my federal and state return, I get the Error "turbotax was unable to send your return to the intuit electronic filing center, for the following reason: cancelled. looks like we had a technical hiccup." I've tried a few times. It's not clear what the issue is but I can't mail my return in, my state requires that I e-file.
To work around this issue, check your internet connection. Also, check that your security software is allowing TurboTax to connect to the internet.
Message: "Your Transmission Didn't Go Through (Reason: Canceled)" on Mac
This is not helpful. I've used TurboTax for the last 4 years on my MacBook and never had trouble until this year. I have to e-file my state, not to mention I already paid for the e-file and now the only advice is to mail in my return. I hope there is a better work around? I used the download, is there a way I transfer my info to an online version?
Yes you can switch from the software to the online version of TurboTax. Please see How do I switch from TurboTax CD/Download to TurboTax Online? for instructions.
I am having the same issue. This is not related to the internet message. I am able to submit my federal but not state tax!
Please reach out to TurboTax Customer Support as your issue would be best resolved with one-on-one support. Please follow the instructions in this TurboTax FAQ to contact Customer Support: What is the TurboTax phone number?
I have a Mac and I can’t file my state taxes electronically. I’m getting the cancelled message. This is a Mac TurboTax interface issue. This is not my internet connection problem . Since it is apparently not a problem with higher levels of TurboTax, why don’t you just implement the fix to Deluxe and be done? Slick tool with a disastrous ending. And you’ve known about it and have done nothing.
This SW problem is still occurring. I have used TT on MAC for a decade and have not had problems. TT Help Desk was of no help - on the phone with them for over 1 hour and they had no idea how to resolve. Very disappointing experience this year.
Same error, unable to efile either federal or state.
This is probably due to a sw bug somewhere, so I would consider the followings are all nonsense solutions:
1. do you have internet connection?
2. do you have firewall blocking turbotax?
3. did you try to restart your turbo tax?
4. did you try to restart to restart your computer?
I am pretty sure if I hop on a phone call, a clueless agent would easily cycle me through these actions without getting anywhere after an hour of effort based on the comments here. Typical of what customer service is like in US.
Yup, I am dealing with the same thing. Got on a call and the agent just told me to download the updates (which I already had done).
At least for me, it comes from NY state filing. I was able to file my federal and one of the state ones when I excluded NY.
Thanks so much for the hint, it was indeed the NY state tax return was the problem, by skipping NY state, I managed to get all the rest e-filed. (also I was NOT able to reply directly to your post @apoursh , error message was my message contains invalid html entities but I am pretty sure it doesn't, or flooding system by reposting same content, glitches everywhere 😱)
This is a disaster for me.
NYS's law mandates the tax return to be e-filed if prepared by software, and I am violating the law by mailing them the paper due to this bug. Seriously, this is tax matter and I may end up in jail due to the violation. And obviously I called and the agent (while being very nice and understanding) was NOT able to help. I think I may have a heart attack tonight as tomorrow's the deadline.
NYS's law also mandates that e-file should not incur additional fee. If I'd guess, it's probably the $0 payment that triggered some validation failure at the end of the e-file process. Or the management of Intuit just got very unhappy with NYS's decision as they lose a lot of revenues on NYS e-filing and they decided to screw them up with some obscure technical bugs. Either way, they're only hurting their users.
The New York mandate does not carry any penalty. And it is not a violation of the mandate if the software you are using is unable to e-file your return.
Same issue here--how could this be breaking for 2 months and this not get fixed by Intuit? NY filing is failing for Mac only client?
Issue "resolved" by restarting TT with different network (hotspot cellular, bypassing fios router), paying another $25 for. state submissions, and then submitting states. It worked. This is ridiculous.
you completed the NYS via the CD download, were not able to transmit, and somehow purchased another NYS one?
How are you able to purchase another NYS one as when I try it says it's already up to date? Did it transfer everything over from the old form, or you had to punch in again?
No, I have both a Mac and PC. I had installed the CD on my Mac, done my return (with two states, one of which I needed to purchase for $45), and then paid again for the state e-file when it was time to do so. That e-File failed due to the bug from this thread--Mac TT seems to fail to file in NY. So, I installed the CD on the PC (it allows up to 5 machines licensed), and tried to load my TT file to e-file from the PC. However, the system did not download the additional state I needed, so I had to repurchase that on the PC. At that point, I dug further and found reports that if you directly connected to your router or used a cell phone hotspot, the Mac upload for e-filing would work. I tried that and it worked. I'm out the additional $45 but it's concerning that my additional state purchases would not automatically download without issue.
It is more concerning that the e-file bug persists despite Intuit's strong team to produce the software itself.
I have been using TT's CD to e-file my taxes on a Mac for over a decade and have never encountered an error. I, too, am getting the 'cancelled' message. I have paid the $25 fee to e-file CA state taxes, so I would expect a refund if I cannot file due to a TT glitch.
I am having the same issue. I was able to submit federal but not my NY state. I was able to submit my son's federal and NY state but NY state is not working for my return. It just says "TurboTax was unable to send your return to the Intuit Electronic Filing Center, for the following reason:"
cancelled
For 2022 filers.
I rebooted my mac n connected to my phone hotspot and it worked!!
I tried to e-file everyday since January 17th - 24th. Took me 2 hrs to trouble shoot this. First time i got this error in 16+ yrs of using the software.
Good everyone!
@321Portlock
Can you provide more information as to why you cant e-file? Is there an error message? Are you using the CD/Download or online?
I've been using Turbotax since before Intuit bought it. I've already filed my return. Now trying to file an amended return. Getting the same error message (see attached). Using TT Home and Business 2022 installed from CD. Macbook Pro with Apple Silicon. OS X 12.6.3. Return files are on removable 4tb Samsung SSD. Retried half a dozen times, got an appointment at 2:30, will try again after that.
If you are using the Download/Desktop version, you will need to make sure you have updated your software. For Mac, please see this Help Article.
