My 2020 returns disappeared from "Continue Your Tax Return"

I completed my 2020 tax returns (Form 1040 and 540) but had not yet e filed them. I opened TurboTax but the returns are no longer shown. Why?

  You have to access your own account and/or  print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

I do not sign in to my TurboTax account to access my return. I guess I'm using the desktop version. I downloaded TurboTax Premium to complete my return. For as many years as I can remember, the tax return I was working on was ALWAYS shown when I opened the TurboTax app. I would simply click on the return and continue working. Now I open the TurboTax app and it is not shown.  Why? The only saved version I have on my computer is the pdf version.

I searched my computer (windows) as shown on the link (*.tax2020). My daughter's return popped up but not mine. Pisses me off.

Did you forget to save it before you closed out of the program?

I always select save when I close out the app. Apparently it is gone. Makes no sense to me since when I opened the app this morning, and it was sitting there waiting for me to work on, along with my daughter's return. As I said before, never had this problem before. Anyway, thanks for helping!

Same with me.  My daughter’s is there, but mine isn’t. I filed with turbo tax for the last three years. 
Not sure what to do now.

When you use online TurboTax you only get one return per fee.   And each return needs its own account and user ID.   If you used the same account and user ID for your return, and then did your daughter's return using the same account and user ID, you overwrote your return and it is lost.

 

Hopefully  you did not do that--use the recovery tool to look for your own account.
