Please follow the directions below to remove the IP PIN option.
I am having the same issue as the first poster.
I followed these very same directions to remove the IP PIN, everytime I e-refile I receive an email saying my return is rejected. Why? If I am answering no to the IP PIN question is my return still being rejected.
Unfortunately, if you requested an IP PIN from the IRS in the past, you cannot bypass entering the PIN by selecting no. You must enter your PIN or file your return by paper.
You can retrieve your PIN from the IRS by following these instructions.
I should not even be eligible for an IP PIN. I didn't file taxes last year or the previous year. On the tax return I am currently trying to file I marked that I did not file. According to the IRS in order to be eligible for an IP PIN you need to have filed taxes the year before. How can I fix something Im not suppose to be eligible for?
Here is help for removing the IP PIN from your return:
i can't get in touch with the irs and yes i did file last year and will not stimulus pay
Don't confuse the IP PIN (six digits) with the self-select PIN (five digits)
If you're on the IP PIN list, the PIN is mandatory for e-File.
The self-select PIN, chosen last year, is optional.
I am having a similar issue. I forgot my IPIN, (5digit pin). it doesn't give me an option to reset. Why has this become a mandatory step to e-File? I called IRS as well, they stated this 5 digit pin is something that's required for turbo tax, not an IRS requirement.
IF anyone knows how to reset please help. Unfortunately, I bought the disk, but I can't e-file, as I don't remember my pin.
Do you mean your Self Select PIN? This PIN is 5 digits and is something you create each year that acts as a digital signature. For more details on the Self Select PIN vs the IP PIN, please see the Help Article here.
Tried to click No I don’t have a pin and nothing happens. It keeps telling me to fill out my pin and my e-file keeps getting rejected. How can I take the pin out completely??? Why can’t the system take out the pin if there is no pin
If your return keeps getting rejected, you can try using the help article posted below to remove the 6-digit IP Pin:
How do I add or remove my 6-digit IP PIN?
@BrittanyShim
Please let us know if this works.
This did not work. There is no trash icon to get rid of the pin. @TiffanyL
Please reach out to TurboTax Customer Support for further assistance with this issue.
Hi Brittany,
I was able to create a federal pin and file the taxes. An IP PIN can be created using https://www.irs.gov/iden[product key removed]-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin
Once you have the IP PIN (6digits) created., go to the 'Federal tax' tab then "other tax situations' then select 'IP PIN' section, Enter the correct IP PIN information and resubmit the return.
I hope this helps! Good luck
Is your return getting rejected because of an identity protect PIN as most excellent Community member @Shefalis said @BrittanyShim.
If your issue is with an e-file PIN see How do I fix e-file reject IND-031-04 or IND-032-04?
@ErnieS0 Hi, I do not have a pin. And sure I could go create one but that seems counterproductive when I didn’t need a pin in the first place. I think there should be a option for TurboTax to let you un-add the pin option. I hope that gets fixed by next tax season.
Follow these instructions to enter your IP PIN or to remove one that you accidentally entered.
My issue was that I missed inputting the IP Pin in the Federal tax tab, under others. Once I inputted that, my file went thru.
This wasn't mandatory last year, these things have changed from this year onwards. I hope your filing goes thru as well!
What if I did receive a ip pin even though it was from years ago and it now wants business identity theft info which do not apply and it makes choose a person and has no none of the above?
I, all of a sudden started receiving a ip pin years ago. I enter it each year even though I don't even know why I started getting it. The online form has changed this year. If I enter it, it then makes me answer about form 14039, which I do not have and don't need. Next is makes me choose a person for business identity theft which none of have had. There is no none of the above option.
Call the IRS and find out if and why you need one. See HERE for more detailshttps://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/ip-pin-need-one/L76FW18T4_US_en_US?uid=ld93cy40
