No, because we don't charge an e-filing fee in TurboTax Online.
When you pay for TurboTax Online, you're charged a tax preparation service fee. The prep fee is charged whether you e-file or print your return.
If your tax return is rejected, you can either fix the rejection and try e-filing again or file a paper return instead.
For more information, please click here.
Remember, if you are rejected you have not e-filed and
therefore will not be charged a fee.If my efile is rejected do I still have to pay if I want to go to another company?
You used the software to prepare the return, so you would not get a refund if you have paid already. That being said, we are here to answer any questions and help you file your return properly.
I have not paid yet, it was supposed to come out of my federal, but even after having a specialist look it over with me via remote access/screen sharing it was rejected twice and now I plan on using a different company. I was told by a CPA that I would not have pay because of the failure of service and because the IRS rejected my method of preparing and filing.
No you don't have to pay if it was suppose to come out of your refund and was rejected. You haven't paid yet and nothing went through. You can just leave and abandon it. Or maybe we can help you fix it? Why is it rejecting?
We have the desktop version of TT for the Mac. Our Federal return was accepted, but it looks like TT botched the Mass return. TT also did not detect an error (negative value in Mass Sched C, line 11 -- we think the program messed up the sign of the figure entered). As a consequence, Mass. rejected the e-file. It looks like our credit card was charged when the e-return was submitted.
There appears to be no way of manually correcting the offending sign in Mass Sched C, line 11. The figure appears in Federal return worksheets (but as a positive number), but not clear where TT gets the numbers in the first place.
The TT advice to send in a printed version of the return with the same error seems to be bad advice! Won't it get rejected as well?
If the e-file does not go through, how can I get a refund or credit for the $25 spent to e-file?
THANKS.
Yes you can ask for a refund of the $25 state efile fee in the Desktop program.

I filed my return this year 1/20/23 but was charged for both federal and state (I live in Florida) I don’t get State returns and was told today 1/31/23 that my state was rejected (duhhhh) does this effect my Federal return? And will I get a refund for the charge on the State filing?
Florida does have some state tax returns but not for individual income tax filers. You would have had to tell the program that yes you were required to file them to get it added.
This does not effect your federal return in any way.
You can contact TurboTax using the information that @VolvoGirl has posted above and request a refund for the state filing. I'm not sure if they'll help since you actually did file it but it never hurts to ask.
It was your telephone assistant who begged off after convincing me the rest would be easy. It was your program that told me the return was ready to file. You charged me anyway even though the filing was rejected. You greedy bastards! I will expose you at every opportunity. FO
@ezraboss Multiple users have posted to this thread. We do not know what your specific issue is---you have not provided us with any details. Did you use online software or did you use the CD/download? Please explain---we may have some helpful information.
I paid for telephone assistance and the "help person" begged off half way through after convincing me the rest would be easy. It wasn't. When I reached the end, YOUR SYSTEM indicated the return was ready to file. It wasn't. It was rejected. So I paid for a service that did not deliver.
@ezraboss We still have no idea what happened. We do not have access to your attempts to receive customer support. So....a general answer---
If you used online TurboTax and your e-file was rejected, you can try to fix it and re-file. But with online, your fee is the same whether you e-file or mail the return in an envelope. So they do not give you a refund if you have to mail the return.
If you used the CD/download and you paid the state e-file fee of $25 and the e-file was rejected and could not be fixed or e-filed, you can seek a refund for the $25 state e-file fee.
No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue. If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help. Do not use the word “refund.”
