You might have not selected the "Pick up where you left off" after you log in. Here are the instructions from the TurboTax online edition:
Hello, when I login into my account and look for the "Document" option on the left menu, the side bar is completely empty. This is very problematic as I need to access my last tax return urgently. I've been a customer for 7 years and this is unacceptable.
Do NOT use the document option as it will not work ...
You have to sign onto your online account using the exact same User ID you used to create the online account.
Close all TurboTax windows on your web browser (including this one). Copy and paste the account recovery website link onto a new web browser window and run the tool.
Use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of all the User ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery
If none of the user ID's received will access your account, then use the option shown in blue on the account recovery website, "Try something else"
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF) or Download .tax file
Me too! Disgusting!! What a terrible system. Not sure if this disfunction is part of all the merged companies/ offerings intuit hasn't correctly integrated or if it is some other poor planning but it is terrible. Acess to my financial records as a long time paying customer seems like a small ask.
You have added on to a 4 year old thread. What problem are you having?
You have to log in to the same account. You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2023 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2023. I had to continue through about a dozen screens to get the menu to show up.
How to access prior online returns
You have to access your own account and/or print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.
Start a 2023 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.
Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax? If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

You can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $43, an actual copy of your tax return.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURN !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

NOTE: TurboTax and the IRS save returns for seven years. Returns older than seven years are purged.
No menu is visible. Turbo tax will only allow me to start my next years taxes. I have been a paying customer for more than 5 years. this is the correct amount. I can go into billing on intuit and see all my previous receipts but none of my actual tax documents!!!!
