The license code for desktop software is not entered on a website; it's entered inside the TurboTax installation program when you run the software.   Did you buy a desktop TurboTax product, and if so, have you downloaded and installed it?    If so, the license code is entered during the installation of the software.   During that process the installer will ask you to sign into your online Intuit Account through the TurboTax software, and then it will ask you to enter the license code to activate the product.    See if this FAQ helps any:

Also see the Addendum I left you below just to be sure you didn't use Online TurboTax by mistake instead of your desktop product.

ADDENDUM:

If the above doesn't explain your situation, then here's another possibility that happens to some users.   Did you mistakenly prepare a return on the Online TurboTax website by mistake instead of using your desktop software you purchased a license for?    If so, you cannot use the license code to pay for an Online return.   If that's your situation, we can tell you how to switch to the desktop product you purchased.

I’m sorry how could I mistakenly complete a return? I can’t even get the code entered on the website that your purchased product told me to go to. I can’t even get past signing in. There’s no place to enter the code to even start the process on the site I was directed to which only wants me to purchase a product that I have already purchased. Of course I haven’t completed a return. I can’t even do step one. There’s no place on this site to do so why does your product packaging direct me to do so? This is ridiculous.

The website says to select my product, but I’ve already purchased my product. I purchased it at Costco and I have a code and it tells me to go to this website that you also directed me to, but there’s no drop-down to select a pre- purchased product only options to purchase a product. Therefore your instructions do not work.

I got mine from Costco, too.

I know that product page is confusing.   You should be seeing images of a lot of TurboTax product covers.  It means to select (not purchase) the product that you have already purchased in order to get the installation file.   i.e., "select" it for download.  It's strictly a product download page.  Click on the image for your particular product (not a dropdown menu).

You don't have to purchase anything there, but you have to select the proper product edition.   As you'll see as you proceed after selecting the same proper product edition that you purchased at Costco, then on the next screen choose Windows or Mac download.   Then you download the installation file.   When you launch the downloaded installation file to install the software, one of the screens will ultimately ask for the license code during activation near the end of installation.

NOTE:  The Addendum I mentioned above was a "just in case" scenario in case a user had mistakenly prepared an Online return then tried to pay for it using their desktop license, which happens occasionally to some people.  I realize it does NOT apply in your case.    So please just disregard that part of my earlier comments since it does not pertain to you.

So, I followed the instructions on the Intuit card - Step 1: Go to InstallTurboTax.com. Step 2: Select the product you purchased to begin your download. Step 3: Choose your operating system. Step 4: Launch TurboTax. Step 5: Follow the steps to install and activate your software - you will need your license.

Problem - It doesn't go to Step 5. It goes directly into the Tax Return File to enter your tax return information. Then at the end it asks for payment with a credit card.

What did I miss?????

After the program downloaded what did you do?  Did it start installing?  Have you seen these instructions

@licensecode You are using the TurboTax online web-based editions.  You are not using the TurboTax software that you purchased, should have downloaded and installed the downloaded software on your personal computer.  During the installation process you are asked to provide the license code.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for installing the TurboTax desktop editions with the license code - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/license-information/install-turbotax-cd-download-software-license-code/L1wFOSXur_US_en_US?uid=m83iognc

Step 4  is Locate and select your Download file to start the installation process.  Did you double click on the downloaded file to start the install?

Same problem here.  I cannot find the license code.  Answer said it's in the install and we input later at use.  Problem is I don't have it.  I never got a confirmation email.

Where'd you buy your product--directly from the TurboTax website, or from an authorized retailer?

HI!!

I too have a license code AND used the online version this year just to get finished and ended up spending even more money😫. However, I do my dad's taxes as well and have always just purchased it from Costco so that has never been a problem until now. Is there a way to "move" our taxes to the desktop version, so I can do my dad's taxes under my license code?  I've been working on this all day....thanks for the help!

Or just start new returns in the Desktop program.   You did 2023 on your computer right?  You need to Transfer 2023 into 2024.  Were you able to transfer them to the Online version?

@VolvoGirl

Thank you so much for the info!

We have used Turbo Tax forever so I have all previous years. My problem is, the laptop we usually use isn't compatible with Windows 11 and neither is our Chromebook. I'm borrowing our daughter's MacBook to try to fix this mess. Because if that, I can't leave anything on it. Should I download the Windows version so I can save it to a thumb drive, to remove it from her machine and be able to download it to our laptop once it's updated?

Or, what do you suggest?

What is your computer?  You don't need Windows 11, only Windows 10.  If you use a Mac you have to download the Mac program.   When you get a Windows you can install on you just download the windows version from your Online account.   Have you already downloaded it and installed it on her Mac?

You can install the Desktop program on 5 computers and both Windows or Mac.   When I log into my Account and go to Products & Billing all your years are listed. If you click on Licenses and Downloads at the top is…..
Need a download or a download for a different operating system (Windows or Mac)? Where you can enter your license code.

When the software downloaded it DIDN'T ask for the code.
