Turbo tax won't import H&R Block 2021 return

Turbo tax won't import my H&R Block PDF and gives the error message below.

This import was unsuccessful.

We recommend you check your internet connection and try again. If we still can't get your info, don't worry. We'll help you enter it manually so you can keep working on your taxes.

The file is on the computer so it doesn't need the internet.

The only reason I bought it is because of the download capability.

I saw on amazon that it's a known problem with no resolution.

If that is the case I'd like to have a refund.

How can I resolve this problem.

You can contact Support, but information transferred from a PDF into TurboTax is limited to names, addresses, and other personal information; tax data, such as carryovers, etc. are not transferred.

How do I contact TurboTax? (intuit.com)

This article by TurboTax says that tax docs (1099s, etc) are often available for customer viewing before becoming available for upload into TurboTax. I'm having the same issue as you are, and I am just to retry the upload over the next few weeks.

That's not what it says on the package and elsewhere. It clearly state that you can import last year's data fro Turbotax and popular software brands, it doesn't say anything about limiting the data or not downloading the whole return.

@troutbum   You are taking about importing current year 1099 info.  The original poster is asking about TRANSFERRING from 2021 last year's return.  Completely different things.

@sselrahc   Are you on Windows or Mac?  Have you seen the help FAQ?

Transfer pdf to Windows Desktop

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/can-i-transfer-last-year-s-pdf-into-the-turbotax-for-windows-cd-download-software/00/27259

If you can’t transfer it to the Desktop program you might be able to transfer it into the Online version.  Online looks like it takes more kinds of pdf than the Desktop program.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/entering-importing/help/how-do-i-transfer-last-year-s-return-into-turbotax-online/00/25953

Then you can move your online return into your Desktop program to continue without paying for Online,

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/choosing-a-product/help/how-do-i-switch-from-turbotax-online-to-the-turbotax-software/00/26129

But be aware transferring from a pdf only transfers basics info like name, address, ssn and AGI.  So you might as well enter everything from scratch.  See this FAQ,  it says

  • From a PDF—which will transfer your personal info and your AGI to give you a head start.

I now see that you are trying to import past returns. Best of luck in getting that accomplished.

I am having the exact same issue. I have a H&R Bloc PRO return in pdf format that I am trying to transfer into 2022 TurtoTax Premier and it keeps saying the file is too big. Is there a minimum set of 1040 forms that would work? Can anyone provide me the list of what is required so that I can cull my pdf file a nd hope that turbotax Premier will accept? I would have not bought TurboTax if I knew about this issue and had not believed the feature set of Premier that clearly states that it can import data from a pdf file.

Hello,

Based upon your case and others in this thread, it appears that, even if your PDF were within the acceptable size limits, TT would only transfer your personal info. I doubt that's all you want. Here's a quote from another poster on this thread:

Best,
