you can't go to IRS for a five digit PIN any more, that is discontinued,
if you did not keep the five digit PIN you invented last year, you will have to file on paper via US Mail
many people are seeing AGI rejected when they are sure it is right; the reason is a mystery.
same problem as last year.
Ive tried that link, IRS website I cannot create an account, the page freezes. I can't even find the specific tab to edit the IND error or find what is effecting my AGI. I had my taxes done by a CPA last year and she has all of my information and isn't answering as well. I get the email for the error in filing, however, there is no interaction "as mentioned in the URL link you just pasted" to assist with resolving the issue, is it because I have the desktop version of TurboTax? Whatever the case may be, there is no contact phone number to even call someone? But you offer specialists at a premium of $149.99 if you want a personal CPA.. I just want to file, seems like the world is working against me here so I am open to suggestions - No tax info from last year, IRS.gov page isn't allowing me to create an account, Error prompts are not interactive with the desktop application, no phone number to contact someone over the phone to walk through it, and can't seem to get close to configuring where or what to change whats effecting my AGI. Gotta love tax season!
IF I CAN'T GET TURBOTAX TO EFILE MY TAX RETURN, WHY WOULD I GET TURBOTAX NEXT YEAR?

Gotta love tax season, thank you for assuring me I am not going crazy lol
Please follow the instructions below to fix your rejected return.
@Emily_h35 If you are referring to your 5-digit pin to e-file, the IRS has discontinued the e-filing PIN option. To verify your identity for e-filing, you’ll need to use last years AGI.
Please see the directions below on how to get your AGI:
If your return was rejected due to a incorrect AGI, please see teh TurboTax FAQ's below, for assistance:
I'm trying to file my taxes but cannot remember my 5 digit pin from last year, how do i fix this?
You can choose to report your AGI. Only you would know your self-select PIN. Your AGI for 2018 was reported on line 7 of Form 1040. If you do not have your prior year return, you can get a transcript from the IRS.
The small print says that the AGI or PIN must be at the header with the name of the deceased. If your spouse died last year or before you created your taxes this 2020 for 2019 and were filing MFJ for 2019, I believe the rejection is because TurboTax does not put that info in the header (they do put the deceased's name) even if you put the correct pin or AGI in the area that Turbo Tax asks. It is a programming error on TurboTax. They blamed IRS when I called the Turbo Tax help desk and said to mail the taxes in along with a cover letter and copy of the death certificate (to San Francisco instead of the normal place). I did that and got my refund in about 6 weeks. However, I believe it is Turbo Tax's fault and will not buy it next year. I even prepaid the $20 for e-filing the state but I had to mail that too. The help desk said I had to send in the original box and disk to get a refund. What a bunch of non-professionals.
Had my Federal and State returns finally accepted after ripping my hair out for 3 days in a row. I was already gearing up to file via snail mail when in a last-ditch effort I changed my 2018 AGI to"0" and resubmitted both returns. The Federal return was accepted immediately within a minute with the state "Pending" which I assume is normal.
I should probably also mention that the IRS lady I spoke to this morning put the blame squarely on Intuit. I can only assume that Intuit would have returned the favor by blaming the IRS.
Why is this half baked software being sold to the public is beyond me. I had to call Intuit support twice just to get my "included free state" manually downloaded and installed while the built-in updater claimed everything is "up to date". The techy on the phone was well aware of this problem.
Seriously? On the tax filing deadline day, this serious bug has not yet been dealt with?
What about your paying customers who purchase your software, Intuit, in order to reduce the amount of time it takes to file traditionally and in a user-friendly environment? Sadly, you have achieved neither.
I filed a paper return for the past couple of years. Will not let me efile this year without last year's self-select PIN ... IND-031-04
For the purpose of signing your electronic return, you can reuse your Self-Select PIN from last year or create a new one to use, it's simply your choice.
You create your own Self-Select PIN. You do not register the PIN with the IRS before filing or need to contact the IRS to get it. The five-digit PIN can be any five digits except all zeros.
For identification purposes, you need to enter either last year’s Self-Select PIN or your AGI. The IRS requires your AGI for identity verification. Please read the TurboTax Help link, listed below, to learn how to locate your AGI.

If your last year's return was delayed for some reason, IRS may not have the right AGI amount in their system to match your return. In my case, I had to enter 0 in the AGI field to get IRS to accept my tax return.
The error that they throw back is more general though. They do not tell you if it was the AGI or if it was the PIN that was incorrect. PIN and AGI are the way they correlate your current tax return to your previous tax return (to verify your identity). If you don't remember receiving any PIN, then it is the AGI that you should fix.
To add to the confusion, there is another PIN that Turbotax asks you to fill in order to "sign" your return. That's a totally different PIN and is not related to the PIN IRS is complaining about.
Turbotax support will NOT help you in this case. They threw random and incorrect advice to me. Here is a resource that may help - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/rejections/help/what-if-i-entered-the-correct-agi-and-i-m-still-getting-an-e-file-reject/00/27031
Your not going crazy, me neither (I hope). I have 3 AGI's, my original one, my amended tax return one and the AGI recalculated by the IRS, which to use? Between this and the 5 digit pin # which has multiple directions (create a new one or use the 2019 pin#s). I've sent it in 3 times and all three have been rejected. Just sent in #4 and waiting for an answer. At least I've got untill 4/15 to get it in correctly.
Changing my 2019 AGI to 0 (zero) did the trick for me too! Thanks.
Thanks for the "expert" answer, but there is no explanation of HOW to verify your identity for e-filing using only last years AGI. TurboTax software is demanding 5 digit pin numbers also, there is no choice. So I input last years AGI AND 5 new 5-digit pins for me and my wife, but the result is REJECTION, code IND-031-04. Very disappointing, very irritating. I have looked at many "expert" answers and they contradict each other. Get it together Turbo Tax.
This seems like an error in your software. There should be the ability to enter the 6 digit pin the IRS gives, within your software. I really would like a refund for the software. How do I make that happen?

To enter a 6 digit IP PIN
Or enter ip pin in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to ip pin
Thanks for the info about entering 0 in place of AGI, this helped me! I had mailed my taxes last year, so I guess some glitch in the software to correctly identify AGI.
WRONG NOT TRUE
IRS WILL GGIVE NEW {IN 6 DIGITS
but TURBO does not seem to have a place to change it from old 5 Digit PIN
The IRS 6 digit IP PIN and the 5 digit PIN are different things.
What is the difference between the Self-Select PIN and the IP PIN?
If you have a 6 digit PIN from the IRS, this is used to verify your identity if you have been a victim identity theft in the past.
You can enter your 6-digit IP PIN in the federal section of the program.
