I thought the online was going to open thru today at 6pm Pacific. Here I've been attempting to file and its closed and now offline.

What exactly are you trying to do?   You cannot start a new 2020 return online now.   If you had one already started  before  midnight on October 15 you have until October 30 to use online software to finish preparing it and file it. 

 

Otherwise:

 

To file a return for a prior tax year

 If you need to prepare a return for 2018, 2019 or 2020 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

We did start our 2020 return in Turbotax online before the deadline. That is how we found out about it staying up for about another 2 weeks.  Now we come back and nothing!

  You have to access your own account and/or  print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURN !

 

EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records.  That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

And......what is the issue with the time of day if you are working on a return using online software?   You are not limited to any certain hours of the day when you are using online software.  You can work on it at any time at all.

 

The only thing subject to a schedule during the day or week is customer support or the Live expert help, which is available from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday Pacific time.
