tax2021 file fail to import, how could I transfer 2021 return from Turbo Tax into a new account? Is there a PDF import feature?
Those steps are for windows. I’m using the latest Mac OS. I tried both in chrome and safari browsers and saw same results
You downloaded the .tax2021 file from an Online account. Now you are trying to Transfer it to another Online account? Is that right? I'm not sure that is possible. Haven't hear of anyone doing it that way. It wouldn't matter if you are on Windows or Mac. You can try. I would think you would have to open the 2021 file in the 2021 Desktop program and save a new .tax2021 file from the actual installed program. Let me know if you get it to transfer or what you had to do.
Did you see this FAQ and try this? How to transfer into the Online version. You need to have the prior year .tax2021 file on your computer. Expand the link if you used the CD/download last year........

If you already started an online return you will have to clear it and start over to transfer. How to clear and start over

GOOD LUCK
I'm having this same issue. I am selecting a .tax2021 file but TurboTax online (I am using the Self Employed version) complains about a corrupt file.
PDF import also doesn't work (there is literally no place to import a pdf of last year's returns even though the website says it is possible to "give you a head start").
Since you are using a Mac, please try to follow these instructions here.
Please let us know if you need additional assistance. @rvttax2000
The help doc shared says we can't import .txf files into Turbo Tax Online. Anyways, I don't think we can export .txf files from Turbo Tax Online, so I believe this is not helpful towards the problem we are both facing.
Note: Neither TurboTax Online nor TurboTax Business supports imports from the .txf file.
You can transfer into Turbo Tax online, you can do so following these instructions. It is designed to make the tax process easier. @someonejustlikeme
@someonejustlikeme This thread is about Transferring a .tax2021 file into 2022. Not about importing .txf files. .txf is to import from financial programs like Quicken.
The instructions shared don’t cover the problem we are facing. They don’t help with the problem of having 2 accounts. 2021 tax’s I used TurboTax online, call that account A21. This year I have a new account, call it B22. How do I export tax2021 file from A21 and then import it into TurboTax online to complete my 2022 taxes?when you try this process it fails and says the file is corrupted. But all I did was click the download link from TurboTax online in account A21 and click the upload link in TurboTax 2022 with account B22. How could the file be corrupted? It must be a proble with the way TurboTax downloaded the file or uploaded the file. It’s definitely a problem with TurboTax online that requires fixing
the help documentation shared only covers the case of having 1 TurboTax online account. You have 2 accounts and you can find in the online forums that there is not yet a merge feature for intuit accounts so I need to manually move my taxes from account A21 to B22.
“All you need to do is sign in with the same user ID you used last year and we'll transfer your information over”
Hold on. Why do you have a new account for 2022? You should just use the first account A21. Log into the A21 account and do 2022. There's nothing that will be gained by starting a new account for 2022. @taxuser24759
Because I have 2 accounts and I need to switch accounts I use for filing taxes with TurboTax since I also use Mint and I don’t want 2 accounts
see here for the recommendation about using one account and that merging is not supported. Hence I’m trying to move my taxes from account A to account B (also using account B for other products)
Sorry but that FAQ makes it clear. There is no way to merge accounts. That means moving from another account too.
Volvo girl. Please read the faq. They clearly state that you can import pdf or tax file to “jumpstart” your return. But when following the steps I mentioned above, we get corruption errors. How can I get non corrupted .tax file exported from TurboTax online?
volvogirl can you explain what corrupted file even means in this situation ? I’m not sure if you work for intuit or are a developer but it would be great if you could explain why the .tax2021 file is corrupted when exported from TurboTax online

It's easy to transfer last year's return, and depending on your situation, the transfer could be:
No, I don't know about it. I'm just a volunteer here. But if you can transfer from a pdf it only transfers very basic info like just your name, ssn, address & AGI. Nothing else. The FAQs don't explain it very well. So I wouldn't bother trying to transfer any pdf from anywhere.
Don't know if this will work, but you can OPEN the .tax2021 file you downloaded from Online in the 2021 Desktop program. Then save it as a Desktop .tax2021 file. That may let 2022 Online transfer it. So if you want to buy the 2021 program or ask support for a download.
But Mac may have more snags than Windows. Since you want to use the Online version, I suppose you could find a Windows computer like a friend's or family and try to download the .tax2021 and then transfer it? Might be worth a shot.
I have been importing K-1 data to TurboTax (.txf files) from TaxPackageSupport.com for years using Premier or Home&Business versions on a mac. It appears that Intuit has decided to disallow that function this year...not sure why.
Please see if the solution offered in this thread helps.
@jj148
I'm having the same issue with what I believe is a very common scenario. I got a divorce in 2022 therefore need to file as a single under my SS# vs. a joint that was under his SS# as the primary tax ID. I opened a new account, saved the .tax file from the old account to my mac, and tried to import it to my new account. I get the same "corrupted file" error message. The file will upload correctly to the old account that it was originally associated with. Therefore, it's an erroneous error message. The real frustration is that this is clearly a design flaw for a very common occurrence. It's extremely frustrating to lose the benefit of using turbotax for consecutive years based on this oversight.
You can't transfer from a Joint return to Single. Here's some info.....
If you used Turbo Tax last year you should start a brand new account for yourself and not transfer from last year. You can not remove a spouse or switch the order of names.
Online is only good for 1 return. But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts. How to start another return in the Online version

If your tax file is encrypted or password protected, you will get this error when trying to import to TurboTax online. Open the tax file in your desktop program. From the File menu select Password (windows) or Encrypt (MAC). Remove the password/encryption. Re- save your tax file without the password. Now you can upload it into TurboTax online.
