I am having trouble installing TurboTax Deluxe on my Windows 10 Pro 64-bit system. I run the downloaded install program but nothing happens after extracting files.

The extracting files box just disappears after the bar gets to the end of the box. Nothing happens and there is no feedback. I have even run this in Safe Mode, but still nothing happens after supposedly extracting files. I get a file called TTINSTALLER.log which mentions two other files called ISDebugLog.log and TTDErrorLog.log, but those files do not seem to have actually created on my system. What is going on here? This is driving me nuts. I do not believe it is a Windows problem since I have no problem installing anything else on my PC. I see other people reporting the same (or similar) problems installing TT, but no fix I have seen works. Please help!

I am going to suggest these steps below. I think you might be having an issue other users have experienced with installing when using Windows 10.

  1. Type "environment" in the windows search bar.
  2. This will bring up "Edit the System Environment Variables" as a match.
  3. Clicking on it takes you to the "Advanced" tab of a dialog box titled "System Properties."
  4. Near the bottom of the dialog box, click on the pushbutton labeled "Environment Variables...".
  5. This brings up a separate dialog box that shows the current values for user environment variables at the top and system variables at the bottom. In the list of user environment variables, you should see both TEMP and TMP, and their current values.
  6. Click on each, then click on the "Edit..." pushbutton.
  7. This brings up another dialog box in which you can change the "Variable value" to "C:\Temp" (be sure to change the variable value, not the variable name).
  8. This folder must, of course, exist for this step to work properly.
  9. OK out of all the dialog boxes and retry the install.
  10. Environment variable changes take effect immediately, so if this is the only change you make, it's not necessary to reboot.

CatinaT1,

That worked perfectly.  My TurboTax is now completely installed and set up.  Thank you very much.

A question I have is, should I now change those user environment variables back to the way they were, or is it safe to just leave those changes in place going forward?

Once again, thank you very much.

this solution solved my problem with windows 11 as well. you should list it on turbotaxhelp.com for other users so that we don't have to spend several hours trying to figure out why it was not installing

Changes applied per instructions, watched files populate in folder, still received same error message, file still will not install.

Excellent trick applied to Win 11 Pro. I don't think it applies to the regular Win 11

I have Win 11 Pro and the installation was not executed after unzipping. It works perfectly after wasting hours to make it install.

I guess Intuit must do something about it...!

This fix did not work for me. I'll have to return TurboTax because I can't load it.

How much RAM do you have?  There may not be enough to run the installer.  Close any other running processes (you can use Task Manager) and re-try.

Here's more info on Minimum System Requirements.

did not work for me.  Installation is claiming an error with the turbotax 2024.msi installation file that's created by the installation program. no luck repeatedly trying to run after erro msg.

This finally worked for me but I had to set up the TEMP folder on a different drive, rather than the C: drive.
