How do I speak with the free CPA Consultant? Missed the phone call and can't talk to a person for help.

Here is the TurboTax Live product information web-page and see below for information on how to use the service.  

 

You must be using TurboTax Live to get a review of your return by a tax expert. Review isn't available in the other versions of TurboTax Online or in TurboTax CD/Download.

 

You'll see the option for a review as part of the normal process of filing your return.  To schedule a review:

 

  1. Make sure you're signed into your TurboTax Live account and have your return open.
  2. Once you've entered all the information for your return and you reach the Review section, we'll ask if you want to connect with an expert to ask any final questions. You can choose between Talk live and Get a written response. We'll collect a little information from you after you make your choice.

The original poster was asking about how to speak with the free CPA consultant that is offered if we have a balance due, and "buy" TurboTax before June 30th 2020, and place the call before filing.  This doesn't require paying for TurboTax Live.  I skipped over it figuring that I wouldn't need it, but it wasn't until after the information that was provided about how to place the call that the actual tax return document was made visible to us, where I see something that looks wrong (taxable distribution from a qualified distribution from a 529 account!) and which I want to discuss with someone.  So now I have the same question as the original poster.

If you don't get info in this user community forum about how to use the free offer for a CPA/EA consult you received in email, here's how to phone TurboTax Support during business hours and tell them you want to take advantage of your offer, or have them explain how it works.

 

Hours are 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern) 7 days.

I purchased the premium version of the 2019 tax software online.  I filed my federal taxes and received my refund.  My 2019 CA tax return was rejected.  How do I get someone to walk me through making the corrections or mailing in a return.  I must have spent over five hours trying to get someone life to talk to me.

@theo5 The original posting for this thread was referring to speaking with a live CPA; if that is not your desire then you are free to finish up your taxes and transmit them as the IRS started accepting returns yesterday 02/12/21. If you are needing live assistance then you follow the information provided throughout the thread.

I have been using Turbotax for almost 40 years but still have a major problem with my California tax return that has been rejected several times for 2019.  I received a message from Turbo tax that I would be instructed in how to submit an acceptable California tax return or walked through filling out a paper return that could be submitted. I have spent over twelve hours trying to talk with anyone at Turbotax that can "walk me through" the necessary steps.  I sold a vacation house and had  $8125.20 deducted by the Franchise Tax Board (Settlement Statement & form 573) which did not affect the Federal 1040 but do affect the California 540 return.  The California Turbotax return shows a refund of $1845 but the electronic return is rejected.  I don't know if $8125.20 should be added to the stated refund but regardless I need to get this resolved ASAP as this years tax returns will be due soon.

When you sold the house in CA, they withheld state tax. That state tax needs to entered into the program. It does not sound like you added it into the program yet. 

 

You want to enter the state tax paid in the federal section

  1. Scroll down to  Estimates and Other Taxes Paid.
  2. Select Other Income Taxes
  3. Select withholding not already entered on a W2 or 1099.

The 2019 is processed independently of 2020. 

 

 You can fill this form out for someone to call you.

Yes, you can do this yourself.

  1. Log into Turbo Tax if in Turbo Tax Online
  2. Go to federal>deductions and credits>Your Home
  3. Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098)>start
  4. Enter your 1098 forms into the computer
  5. if you need additional assistance, you can select Live Tax Advice at the top right of your screen as we are unable to call you.
