I have entered in 4 returns, submitted 3 and paid for all 3 state forms to be e-filed. When I started entering the returns , early one was asked if I wanted to use the free state for this return, and selected Yes. I went back and forth between the different returns before it was time to file. As I filed each one, I was asked to pay for the State return and paid by credit card for each. I am now about to file the last State return and now being asked again to pay. I thought there was One Free State with the Turbo Tax Deluxe. Why am I having to pay 4 times for all 4 returns? Did I miss something somewhere? The other odd thing I noticed - I paid $25 for 2 of the States, and just paid $20 for the 3rd return, ALL the SAME state, so why the charge is different? ? And now I am being prompted to pay yet a 4th ? but why the amounts are not the same for Same State ?
With TurboTax Deluxe CD/Download software, you get one free state download. This means you can prepare and print unlimited returns for one state at no extra cost. There is an additional fee to e-file your state return.

What is the TurboTax phone number?
when I get to state tax form I have 2 listed: Indiana non-resident and Florida resident. Since FL doesn't have state taxes on income i selected Indiana non-resident as i need to recoup IN taxes paid. TurboTax wants to charge me $40 for the state tax form. I am supposed to get one free state and this not true!
very dissapointed!!
FLORIDA
Florida does not have a state income tax. You should have skipped the FL tax unless you own rental property in FL or a FL based business.
Florida has a tangible personal property tax form that is used in a Florida-located business or rental property and is filed with the county property appraiser by April 1st.
If you do need to file a Form DR-405, nothing will print (except an instruction sheet) unless assets were transferred or you manually entered assets in the DR-405 worksheet.
If you do not have tangible personal property to report, choose Skip State in the State Taxes section.
If you proceeded past the warning screens, try deleting the Florida return --> https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1900608
It sounds like you went too far and may need to get help from customer support to get rid of the charge for a FL return.
No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue. If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help. Do not use the word “refund.”

thanks but i did not go to far as i never selected a state form. I also checked to see if a state form file was created and there was none.
I have also called the number for support that that system is anything but support !
@JVLSRQ Are you using the CD/download or online software?
what I bought from costco has a disc but i used the Code and downloaded what i think is a desktop version not online. Windows
Make sure you are using the CD/download. I suspect you are online because you mentioned "$40" for the state.
We see people get confused and they keep logging in to online software which will require them to pay at the end. You need to use the desktop software. One way to tell if you are using the right software---your tool bar. Online software has the toolbar in a black vertical column on the left side of the screen. Desktop software has the tools up on the top of your TT screen.
If you are using online, you are using the wrong program. You need to switch to the desktop software to get what you paid for. You have to download it, update it and open it up from your own hard drive to use it.
i exit TTD and restart it by clicking on Turbotax 2022 on my desktop, so pretty sure that means im not logging into Online.
Ok----then you just plain should not have downloaded FL software. It seems like you must have downloaded software for FL and your other state. You are going to have to deal with the aggravation of contacting customer support to sort it out. Sorry.
thanks
but if i downloaded the FL state forms, when i get back into TT why doesnt it take me to FL tax return?
Even when I go to review returns it only shows a federal return and no state return.
there is a glitch int he matrix and its impossible to contact customer service with their automated system.

or
i have called and stated "billing" but it asks for a customer ID number. kindof indicates i have to get a number from wesite, when i click on Help from TTD it takes me to ttlc.intuit
I am running out of ideas. Maybe try telling customer support you have a state return issue. Do not use the word "refund."
And....it is still not clear....you say you did not download FL---or that you do not see a FL return? Did you download the other state? When is it trying to charge you?
@Critter-3 ? Do you have any wisdom to shed on this Florida confusion?
idea, what happens if i select FILE from top row and then its lists Remove State Return? will i then have used my one free state?
and I know i havent even selected a state yet because at end of Federal return it says that it looks like you could have 2 state returns. fine i go to next screen and i select IN and on next screen I remove FL. yet it then still sends me to billing. again there is not state file saved in same folder as my federal return. when going to REVIEW there is only a Federal return. thanks
FLORIDA DOESN'T HAVE A STATE INCOME TAX TO FILE ... ONLY AN TANGIBLE TAX YOU MUST MAIL.

thanks Critter but i did not select FL for my state.
in my TTD folder there are 4 files 1040_22, 1099_22, APP_22 and ini_22. there are not state files.
i also never got the screen you attached.
Can you take a screen shot of where it's trying to charge you $40 for state? Or where you have 2 states listed. Do you have a blue menu bar going across the top with the tabs Personal, Federal, State, Review File OR a black menu bar down the left side?
yes, i am using the desktop and not the online.
first insert below, when i select Indiana this is where the next screen shows both IN and FL again and i select FL to remove. then to procede with IN it sends me to account for billing
also in second insert you can see there is no file for any state tax return
my mistake, state taxes are within the 1040 file
still when i open my 1040 file there is no state listed when selecting REVIEW, it only shows federal.
and when i click on STATE TAXES i get this:
indicates the 2 states, then I get this:
from there it takes me to selecting a state and then to account billing
I use the Desktop program and never saw a screen like that. I downloaded my state. OHHHHHH, What version do you have? Basic does not come with a state download. And Deluxe comes 2 ways, Deluxe with one state and Deluxe without a state. Did you buy the wrong Deluxe download? If you are in Florida maybe you bought Deluxe without a state. Double check your receipt or invoice. It should say Federal + Efile + State or it won't say State.
@VolvoGirl @Jvlsrq1 Yes----did you buy the version of Basic or Deluxe that did not include state software? If you bought it from a retailer they sell it with or without state software included. Maybe you bought the one that did not include a state program at all, which is what has led to all of this confusion. Where did you buy the software?
well theres a sucker born every minute and i guess I was the sucker when I bought my Deluxe from Costco in FL.
the cover has Federal return and Federal efile so that is the issue
so i got ripped off paying what i did from Costco and not getting state which i could have got in another store with state for same price (instead of paying another $40 to get 1 state)
I saw the TurboTax deluxe and assumed it included state. nice trick Intuit and Costco. In effect i paid over $80 for something that should have cost $40 or less and had free state form.
I get it that Deluxe is related to tax return complexity and not what forms are included. i guess this is the first time ive seen it w/o state included. at least this offers a $10 credit for in-product add-ons which i will again assume would apply to a state return. time will tell.
now costco wont take it back (opened) and I will be very leery of Intuit products in future.
Thanks for all the help and glad this was resolved.
Since FL doesn't have a state income tax return to do it makes perfect sense for the Costco in FL to sell programs without the state program included for a lesser price than the one with a state program.
If you do need a state program then you have to buy the version with a state program.
