Why did I receive an email saying thank you for choosing turbo tax and I haven’t receiving my funds yet?

The IRS issues most refunds in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review. If it has been more than 21 days since your return was accepted, you can call the IRS directly to check on your refund status.

How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS ...

I got the same email. I can not find an answer online. I understand I can call the IRS, that does not answer why I received the email. I’m hoping it is because it has been released and just not updated on the sites

The "Thank you" email from TurboTax, is sent whether you pay right now or when you are paying from your refund. It is just an automatic courtesy message.

You can check your e-file status. If it's been accepted, you can begin to track your refund at the IRS Where's My Refund? site.  You'll need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund to check your status.

I got a letter today saying congrats. But I did my taxes 21 days ago and still have not received my return. I’m hoping I get it soon. I see all the other People saying the same thing but I’ve never had to go through this before I hope it doesn’t take long.

Most refunds are received within 21 days from the time a return has been accepted (received). For the most up-to-date information regarding the status of your tax return and a specific date of when to expect your refund, please visit the IRS Where's My Refund? site. Please see the TurboTax FAQ When will I get my IRS refund? for more information.

If after 21 days from acceptance of your return, you do not have your tax refund you will need to contact the IRS.  Please see the TurboTax FAQ: What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

I feel like it’s going past the 21 days for everyone. This is ridiculous. People need their money.

Please check the IRS website here." It is noted there that Updates to Where’s My Refund? Status Delayed for Some." Some have reported that the IRS link did not update and they did receive their refund. Another reason could be if you claimed EITC, this can sometimes delay your refund,

Yes I totally agree everyone does need their money. It’s not like me and my family is hurting. But this nice little lump sum will help me pay off my book like I have really been looking forward to getting my book paid off and now this is prolonging it it’s getting out of hand we all need our money.

I filed 20 days ago and every time I check the useless app it says "Still being processed". I received this email from TurboTax yesterday and I am really hoping its an indicator that my return is going to be here soon. I am extremely frustrated at this point because many of my co-workers and friends received theirs in around 10 days. I would like to know why the  IRS app is not working and the meaning of this email?

The IRS issues refunds, not TurboTax. This means that we can't say for sure why you haven’t received your refund if it's been longer than 21 days since you e-filed. You'll have to speak directly to IRS to find out more about the delay.

You should consider contacting the IRS if it’s been:

  • 21 days or more since you e-filed
  • 6 weeks or more since you mailed your return (under typical circumstances, however, see the link above regarding delays).
  • Or if the IRS’s Where's My Refund page tells you to contact them

Then the IRS asks that you call them at these numbers:

  • For individuals: 800-829-1040
  • For businesses: 800-829-4933
  • For those with hearing impairments: TTY/TDD 800-829-4059

To have an efficient call, here's what you need to prepare.

What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

Okay, thank you very much. I appreciate your timely response, but what does the email mean? It is congratulating me but my return was accepted weeks ago.

@NickGlow Your TurboTax E-filing status is what stage of the process your return is in. This process ends once your return is accepted by the IRS. Once Accepted by the IRS, TurboTax does not receive any updates regarding your tax return.

Your IRS Refund status is when you can expect your refund. Now any updates regarding your refund would only be found on the IRS Where's My Refund? site.

If your return was accepted less than 21 days ago, hang in there. It can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks or more right now to go from acceptance to approval.

Here is the general timeline of e-filed returns:

Transmission > Acceptance > Processing > Approval > Refund.

Thank you so much, again. So would you say I may have another additional 21 days to wait? Turbo Tax says my estimated return date is the 6th. I hope that is true. Im confused on which process of this takes 21 days.

@NickGlow

Turbo Tax will not have a status on your refund. If the IRS website says processing, this means they are working on it.

Will turbo tax give you a date ?

Intuit Alumni
Mar 31, 2021 9:58:15 AM

No, when you file, TurboTax gives you an estimated refund date based on the average 21 day time frame for most filers. Once your return has been accepted, only the IRS knows the status of processing your tax return, whether you owe taxes or are due a refund. In prior years, the IRS issued more than 9 out of 10 refunds to taxpayers in less than 21 days last year.

For the most up to date information after you have e-filed your tax return and its been accepted by the IRS:

The tracker displays progress through three stages:

Return Received (or may say Processing) > Refund Approved > Refund Sent

Updates are daily, usually overnight.

I received the same email yesterday morning it's been roughly two weeks since the iris accepting my e-file. Wmr is still saying processing topic 152. I chose to allow TurboTax to take the fees out of my refund. Which I'm starting to regret because now I realize it will be delayed even longer because a third party has to take the fees out and then send the rest of my account. I do have a question after you received that email how long after did you receive your refund? I'm praying this is not a courtesy automatic email they sent out to everyone. Cuz I have been waiting patiently for IRS wmr website to update it's been almost 3 weeks.

I also received the email yesterday and my file day is June 12th also that is the same date the IRS received my e-file. But no updates with the wmr so I'm praying this means that TurboTax has received their payment from my refund. Did you receive your tax refund shortly after receiving the email?

@overcomer111

Did you e-file?  Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

You received an email telling you that your e-file was accepted by the IRS?  That means the IRS has your return and will process the return.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 34of your 2020 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901548-why-do-some-refunds-take-longer-than-others

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.   Many refunds are taking longer during the pandemic.  The IRS is backlogged —-they are still trying to process millions of 2019 returns; they received millions of e-filed on the day they opened for 2020 returns, and now they are burdened with sending out another round of stimulus checks.   Congress changed the tax laws in the middle of the tax season so millions of returns need to be recalculated; and now on top of all that,  they have to gear up to start making monthly child tax credit payments.

Some delays are resulting from incorrect amounts that folks entered for stimulus checks they received.   Many people have been confused by the recovery rebate credit and completed it incorrectly.  The IRS may delay your refund while they cross-check to see what you received.  Some refunds are delayed because of the tax law changes that went into effect recently.   If your return has unemployment or the premium tax credit on it, that may be delaying it.

From this IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

As of June 23, 2021, we had 17.5 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include tax year 2020 returns such as those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We have processed all error free returns received prior to 2021, and continue to work the returns that need to be manually reviewed due to errors.  We are rerouting tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened and processed in the order received. As the return is processed, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues depends on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.

What you should do: If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

Don't put any weight to the standard marketing email which thanks you for using TT and is probably trying to upsell you something.   It has nothing to do with the processing of your return ... once the TT program is alerted to the fact the return was accepted for processing or rejected then they get no further information.  All information must be gotten from the FEDS or the STATE going forward  and how long it will take to process the returns is totally  in their court.

I filed on 3/7 and got an email with 24 hours that it was accepted, but then today (3/22) I got another email  from turbo tax saying “phew you did it!” I’m assuming this is the email most of you are asking about as well? Those that received the email did you get your refund not long after this second email? My 21 day mark is next Monday (03/28) , so I was hoping this email might mean that the return was processed and completed.
