IRS has no record of my filing

I filed my 2019 taxes on 5/1. Turbo Tax says my filing was "accepted" by the IRS.  When I checked on 6/22, the IRS says it has no record of my filing.

Sometimes people get confused by the “summary” given by TurboTax and use the wrong amount for the federal refund.  Make sure you are only using the federal refund amount, and not an amount that combined your federal and state refunds.

Your federal refund amount is on line 20 of your Form 1040

I didn't use the "Where's my refund" option. I logged into the IRS site to get a transcript of my 2018 and 2019 returns.   While all previous years were listed, the 2019 return had a "*"  by it and it said that it had not been received.  I filed on 5/11 and it is now 6/23.

I filed my return in March and IRS has no record. I’m not getting a refund so not looking for money but would like to know why they are showing they have not processed my return. Did you ever get a response?

If you are not receiving a federal tax refund the IRS does not have a way to check the status of your tax return.

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

If you are not getting a refund then you can check your account status and/or see if the return transcript has been updated yet.   This year, due to the covid shutdown & the stimulus checks the IRS is WAYYYY behind in processing returns and they are focused on returns with refunds and the balance due returns have been pushed to the back of the bus ... it may take months to get them processed and posted so patience will be needed.

Any update on this?? I filed 1/27/2020, turbotax says accepted by IRS on 1/28/2020 and the IRS still has zero record of my return.  Of course I can't get anyone on the phone at either company so I'm totally panicking.

Same here. I filed on July 15th, accepted on July 15th. IRS shows no record of my payment and shows me as a 2019 non-filer. I have the confirmation of payment from pay1040 as well as the acceptance of my 2019 return from the IRS. I got the first stimulus no problem, but the 2nd one shows they have no info because I haven't filed a 2019 return...even though I have. Also cannot get anyone at the IRS on the phone. What a cluster.

  • same. I filed my 2019 taxes 4/10/20, it was accepted 4/10/20. I recently checked my transcripts and it shows me as a non-filer for last year. I recieved the first stimulus no problem. but for the second stimulus its saying "status not available". I have spent the last 3 days trying to get someone on the phone with no luck. I followed all the advised steps someone provided earlier in this thread only for it to say there was no one available to talk to and it hung up.

Same here. I filed my 2019 taxes on 6/4/20 and was accepted on same day but when I checked on IRS website it said that it had not been received.  I received the first stimulus but for the second one its saying they don't have enough information yet (we're working on this), or I’m not eligible for a payment. It’s so frustrating

I'm in the same boat as just about everyone else in this thread: E-filed through TurboTax in March 2020, TurboTax indicated it was accepted by the IRS a day later. Since then I've gotten almost nothing; I did happen to receive a letter from the IRS in August asking for the first two pages of my return. I mailed the requested info back a day later.

After that there has been nothing, and like you all I am trying daily to get someone on the phone. Also created an IRS online account and there is no record of my 2019 return, only shows 2018.

I guess it's nice to know I'm not the only person experiencing this.

I am also on the same boat as this thread; I filed with Turbotax February 7th 2020 accepted the same day based on the email from TT; I was on processing status the whole year 2020 until now it says they don't have my 2019 taxes that it was never received I did Spoke with an IRS agent she explained to me that it might've been lost on all the files that were put on back log due to the pandemic; she advised to resend it as they don't have any record of me filing at all; and also explained if they don't showed a 2019 tax return i will not be getting a 2nd stimulus and i would have to claim it on the 2020 return and the reason why most of us on this situation recieved the first but not the second its because they used 2018 info for the first round.  ; it is very frustrating and I'm on a very financial hardship TT customer service sucks because you can never reach an agent; I'm done and will never use this service again now all i need to know is how to resend my return and be done with this mess.

@karlam30 Once you file a tax return and it has been accepted, there is nothing TurboTax can do for you.   You used do-it-yourself tax software.  TurboTax cannot legally intercede with the IRS for you--however much you would like that or want that,.  TurboTax receives no information from the IRS after you file.  If the IRS  lost your return during the pandemic, that is an  IRS problem.   You can file it by printing it, signing it in ink and mailing it now.  But mailed returns take a long time to be processed.

You can get the stimulus money by using the recovery rebate credit on your 2020 tax return.  The stimulus money will become part of your 2020 refund.

The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return.  If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check in 2020, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021

The Recovery Rebate Credit will be found in the Federal Review section,  If you are eligible it will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

You have to access your own account and/or  print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Shouldn't we all file a complaint against Turbo Tax. Last year will be the last year I use turbo tax. Seems like the people that had problems are people who used turbo tax. Now we are all stuck in this mess that turbo tax isn't helping. So hard to get a real person from turbotax to fix this issue .My last year return showing irs hasn't received my taxes but I got confirmation that it did. Now I'm a non filer in the irs eyes and my family didn't get the stimulus check because of it. TurboTax needs to take responsibility!

Same situation here, but you filed a month before I did...

My status on IRS.gov went from "processing your return" each month when I checked from April-Nov 2020, to
"no record of filing" as of Jan 1 2021.

So frustrating, as I should be receiving a needed refund.  I've tried calling, and have even opened a claim with the Taxpayer Advocacy --- but they aren't answering their phones either and haven't called back!

Has anyone got any answers? I'm out $120 for turbitax. Now the irs wants me to print out my return, get it certified, then fax it to them. Apoarently they're all "learning". So then they can still say they didn't get it.

Nope I haven't. I'm so frustrated, cause of this issue I still haven't gotten my 2nd stimulus check. I feel turbotax needs to take action and responsibility in this matter. Its their fault, we did everything right!

Same, I filed 4/15/2020, paid the money I owed.  Received emailed that they accepted my return.  IRS showed processed return, got both stimulus payments, all the sudden today it show 2019 taxes not processed.  There is a transcript however that says it was submitted on 4/15 and processed on 5/11/2020.  There is also a letter dated today saying I have filed to pay the above taxes, and the date is Dec 2020, which is 2020 taxes.  It is beyond infuriating.  So fully plan to send them their own transcript of my 2019 taxes to debate this issue.  If any other business in the world ran this way they would be put out of business.

Hey everyone,

I can confirm this is NOT a Turbo Tax issue. I am using TT for the first time this year and I am in the exact same position as everyone else. I paper filed and the IRS has no record of my 2019. When I log onto the transcript site there is only an "*" next to 2019 with a letter that says the IRS has no record.

I also received the first stimulus check, but no second round check. I called the IRS through the number listed in this thread to speak to an agent. She said my information is not correct (i.e. my SS or birthday). She told me I needed to double check the info I provided. I told her I am CERTAIN my SS and birthday are correct, so I don't need to double check that info. I need real advice, but they offer none. Don't bother wasting your time trying to talk to a real person at the IRS. They cannot and will not go off script and will offer you zero help or advice.

I'm going to take my chances are re-file my taxes. Since there is literally no help from the IRS, I don't know what else to do.

My situation is exactly the same as yours, including filing my 2019 return in July 2020 and paying what I owed.  This was the first paper return (and last) that I've filed in over 20 years.   The website confirms that my payment was received, but there is no record of my return in the Transcript.  Fortunately I was able to talk with a IRS rep on two occasions in the last month.   Hint: I was successful by calling at the end of the week and near the end of the 5:00 pm business hours.   They confirmed that they are behind with the processing.  The IRS separates the returns from the payments immediately, cashing the checks, but the paper returns are put in the large backlogged pile for processing.  The rep entered notes in my file stating that the payment was received on time and told me that it may take up to nine (9) more weeks for the return to be processed.  She stated that I should not file my 2020 return until the 2019 return is processed, which means that I cannot claim the second stimulus payment, nor get my expected refund, until then.  She requested that I check online on a weekly basis until it shows up in the transcript and that the IRS will not process your 2020 return without a record that your 2019 being processed.  As of today, still no change.  Good Luck To All Of You!!
