If you are looking for your tax refund, it usually takes 2 - 3 weeks to get your refund.  Some taxpayers get theirs early while some will wait the entire 3 weeks.

If you receive an unavailable status for more than two weeks after your return should have been uploaded into the system, contact the IRS at 800-829-1040.

Here is the general timeline of e-filed returns:

Transmission > Acceptance > Processing > Approval > Refund.

After acceptance, but before processing the status may not be available. If you contact the government or try look up your refund status while your return is still pending, don't be surprised if they tell you "no record found." This is normal; until the government starts reviewing and processing your return, they won't have any record of it.

Please see below for tracking your federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds
Please see below for tracking your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433

If you e-filed your tax returns, you can also click here e-file status lookup tool to check your e-file status. If you filed it successfully, you should see PendingAccepted or Rejected.

Why can't I have the data when my refund is supposed to be here or proximally should be here

It depends.

The IRS issues a lot of refunds within 21 days, but it could take longer.

The online link is your best option to track your refund.  I have attached a link with more answers from the IRS as to why your refund may be taking longer to process.

Also, be aware, the IRS operations are limited during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Attached is a link with more information as to what departments are available to contact at the moment.

The IRS issues a lot of refunds within 21 days, but it has been taking longer with the stimulus payment being issued in addition to the tax refunds. Please see the following link for more information on the processing of the refunds.

Once the 21 day period has passed it is recommended to reach out to the IRS for an update. Please keep in mind the IRS has a high call volume during tax season.

Please follow the instructions through the link below to reach out to the IRS.

What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

I was unable to file electronically because my return kept getting rejected because the AGI was supposedly wrong event though I got it directly from the IRS Transcript.  So then, I filed by mail over 8 weeks weeks ago and the system says the status cannot be determined.  I have called the IRS almost daily for over two weeks and cannot talk to an actual person.  How do I find out if they even received my return?  It is so frustrating.  Any ideas how I can either talk to a person or get status?

Sorry but getting thru to the IRS is nearly impossible since they are overwhelmed with work and understaffed.   The return will eventually show on the IRS WMR? tool but it will take much longer than in the past.   If you are sure you mailed to the correct address as posted on your return then all you can do is wait and check the IRS site once a week until you see progress :  https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Hi, I filled my tax return by mail on February, I was checking the IRS tool to check my tax return status everyday and finally yesterday I got the status “Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available.” after 4 months, hope this helps, my tax return included a ITIN w7 form as well (maybe that’s why it took few months)

The ITIN number was assigned on May 1st as additional note

If you attached your return TO the W-7 and mailed the combination to the address for the W-7 then you should see a letter soon with the ITIN so you can complete your state return (if needed) while the federal is processing.  Still expect processing to take 4 months or more from now.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted?
Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.

You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "

Transmit my returns now

".

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.  Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.

To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product.
If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions
If over 21 days since being Accepted by the IRS and the tax refund is still Processing you can call the IRS and speak with an IRS agent concerning your tax refund.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

@Salba - just be patient.   Paper submitted returns are probably at a minimum 6 month backlog and represent 80% of the IRS backlog so best to begin checking again early October.

As of May 27, 2022, we had 10.2 million unprocessed individual returns which include returns received before 2022, and new tax year 2021 returns. Of these, 2 million returns require error correction or other special handling, and 8.2 million are paper returns waiting to be reviewed and processed. This work does not typically require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund and in some cases this work could take 90 to 120 days. If a correction is made to any Recovery Rebate Credit, Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation.
