I want to amend my return to add some interest income and this video describes it to some extent but the amend sequence can only be initiated after doing File->New Tax Return at which point the context of the original return is lost. I can add the interest income but I see no way to correlate it to the original return. Am I missing something here?

[EDIT NOTE 05/11/2026 at 10:10 Pacific. I mentioned this in a comment below, but I'm going to add it here too. Before you start amending your return, you should make a backup copy of the original return and store it somewhere safe and secure. Use a different name for it such as my2025return_original.tax2025. i.e., something that distinguishes it as the original return. Then if you mess up the amended return, you always have the original return "as filed."]
NO, you do NOT use "New Tax Return." That actually begins a brand new tax return.
When you launch desktop TurboTax, do you encounter the main landing page that looks similar to this? You may have to scroll down a bit.
.
And just in case you need it, here's an alternate way to begin an amended return in the desktop software:
Open the current return that you filed (and has been accepted.) Do NOT make any changes in it, until you are instructed to do so. Then here's how to navigate:
Federal Taxes tab (except it's the Personal tab in Home and Business)
Subtab Other Tax Situations
On the Other Tax Situations screen scroll way down to topic Other Tax Forms.
Choose subtopic Amend a return.
@ yang cooper Sorry, but I keep thinking of things to add.

Now I see it plain as day - not sure where my head was. Thanks for the replies!
