Won't let me eFile. After clicking Transmit Returns Now, msg says Tax Program Update Required yet TurboTax says software is up to date. How do I file?

Saved files, opened/closed software and even restarted the laptop.  Still no updates available.

Have you tried manually updating your software? Help with doing so has been provided for you below.

Maybe one of the forms in your return is not finalized yet, so you need to wait for a yet-to-be-released update before you can file.

Thank you very much for the suggestion and the link..  It worked!  After all these years of using TurboTax I had no idea there was a manual update option.

Manual update does not work.  That update is over a week old.  

 

Tried on two different computers and still the loop of that I need an update.  

 

Trying to TRANSMIT RETURNS NOW.  It will not let me.  It says my program is up to date.

"There is an update available for your version of TurboTax" loop when e-filing (Windows)

 

If you are not in NY or MA, please reply back with which state you are in so we may assist further.

I am in California.  However, I do not think it has to do with the state.  

I tried to submit the Federal on its own and it still does not TRANSMIT. 

 

Please advise.

thank you for trying. 

 

However those are generic solutions that do not fix my problem.  Cookies are browser based.  I am using TurboTax software Home and Business Application.  So cookies are irrelevant.  Is there pending updates?  I heard potentially form 4835? I wish you guys would give updates on your home screen.  Your manual updates have not been updated for over a week.  Just let us know what is going on?  Instead of haggling trying to install, reinstall this software.

@ileon44 If your tax return includes Form 4835, this is most likely the issue. I have looked up your form and it does not appear to be ready yet.

Please click on Review, on the left menu.  You may see a message "Some of your tax forms are not ready".  Below the message, you can select the link that says "I want to sign up for email notifications. " Below are the expected release dates for the federal forms. When your federal forms are finalized, open Turbo Tax and Click on the Federal, on the left menu, to open and finish your return.

thanks again.  I just stated that form as an example.  But the website you provided is informational.  

 

I wish the program stated exactly the form I allegedly am waiting for.  It does not say, so therefore, I am in the dark.

Same problem here - I tried everything recommended in multiple discussion groups.

Finally got it to work by deleting TurboTax 2020 (settings/apps & features), reinstalling TurboTax 2020, rerunning the update I had already downloaded (w_perrelsuperpatch_ttax_[removed])

Good that it works after program remove and re-install.

Some years ago I found it necessary to explicitly put the following TT sites in the browser security settings panels:

ttlc.intuit.com

*.intuit.com

 

This old problem has probably been resolved; just a thought though.

I am e-filing Federal and State of MI returns.   I tried manually updating by following earlier instructions but that did not work.  It still says TurboTax needs to be updated.  I'm using Turbo Tax Deluxe.   I know I can mail the returns in but I'd much rather eFile.  I don't trust the USPS these days, already paid the $25 to eFile State, and will get my refund sooner if I eFile.

I am in Michigan and am having the same problem.  I have tried manual update -- no luck.  Let me know if you get a fix.  I'm going to try uninstall, reinstall and update.  Hope that works

Uninstall and reinstall did not work.

Tried Uninstall, then reinstall, then manual update -- still doesn't work.  Can't file.

Not working for me today either after doing a manual update and then doing an uninstall, reinstall and a manual update.  Tried filing federal return and state of Missouri - No luck.  Tried just filing federal and still no luck.  Keeps telling me I need to update and when I update it says that I am up to date.

 

Very frustrating.  I have already filed two of my children's federal returns back in April so I know that this is a glitch in the most recent update that TurboTax released.  It is not my PC, internet connection, antivirus or firewall because as I stated I have filed two of my children's federal returns electronically in April with no problems.

 

Please fix ASAP as the filing deadline is approaching.

Same for me here: filing Fed + Missouri.

 

Called TT support and the Representative has tried uninstall/reinstall, installed TT in another PC, removed the state and just eFile Federal. But it is still unable to Transmit Returns. Still get the message of Update Required.

 

After trying all possible solutions, the representative had to submit a case for TT team to fix.

 

Please escalate this issue as the deadline is approaching.
