If you have not already filed, you can correct errors made in TurboTax by going to where you entered the item and select Edit next to it to correct it
How can I correct an error after already filing for the taxes?
If you already filed your return you can't make any changes. Wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to fix it and
resubmit it.
If your return is accepted, wait until your return has been fully processes and you received your refund ( if you are expecting a refund ), then amend your return.
Here's how you amend your return:
Amended return can't be e-file, you need to print it and mail it in.
What about when the error seems to be something TT automatically carried over from another form (ie from federal to state return)? The software returns errors on items for me when it runs a check and asks me to check this entry, but then it won't allow me to type into the field that it thinks has an error.
If you have an error on your State return and you entered (let's say) the asset on the Federal return, you must return to the Federal portion of the return to correct the error.
TurboTax carries over many items from the Federal to the state returns. Try to see where the number is coming from and return to where you entered it on the Federal side.
Unfortunately the number that it's showing on my state return is not a number on the federal return. It's a totally different number so there is no way for me to correct the federal number to change the error on state taxes as you suggested. Is there a way for me to change the information in the state return, or otherwise access the particular tax form where the error is showing up?
if you are using a desktop version you can go to forms view by selecting "forms" in upper right hand of page.
If you are working an online version sometimes you can correct the error above the forms box on the page that is showing you the error. If not, take note of the error.
Is it a "tax" or "credit" or "income" or "residency" issue? Then go to your state interview and continue until you get to the summary page and "edit/update" the area of concern.
I filed free with you and cannot recover to fix error. I filed for 2019. I put 12.812 for income instead of the correct amount of 13.812. I have not received my stimulus check. What do I do. My email is [email address removed] Phone number [phone number removed]. .
I cannot bring up the account. Have tried every way
It depends.

If you have already filed your tax return, you will need to prepare an amended return to correct the amount of income you have reported.
TT online Self-Employed - has found a selection that it doesn't like the answer to (that it filled in itself) Schedule C, Auto, Special depreciation.
Should be no anwer, but it keeps switching it back to no, telling me the vehicle does not qualify (which I knew), and then telling me to fix it again or file by mail.
Is this something that is wrong with the program or is there an answer further back I can change to make the system skip over this??
I would go back to the screen Based on the miles you drove...... You must have selected I'll enter my actual expenses.
Change the selection to I'll take the standard mileage deduction. Then you can change it back to I'll enter my actual expenses and start over with the interview questions.
I suspect that the issue has to do with whether the vehicle was coded as a 'new' vehicle. Special depreciation or bonus depreciation can be found in this TurboTax Help.
Turbo Tax is not allowing me to correct errors. Can someone help? Suddenly I am locked out and don't understand why. I'm a first-year user.
When I select the update button, the information remains locked.
I need to amend a return from 2019. I used TT on line. I followed the instructions but it’s making me download the states. I need to amend one state and federal, why is it trying to make my purchase the second state again when it’s a non resident state. I get the error message 190 when I try to open the return to work on it.

You can regain your stimulus check this year on the Recovery Rebate Credit form. You might need to open it if it does not show up in the forms column. Ours is right under our W2s.
Me too on several pages. Medical expenses. Dependent forms. Ouch
I found an error, but the error is in the 2022 TT software. and I can't fix or correct the amount of taxable income. Going back to the origin (10-99r) documents list on the Forms 1099-R Summary, TT states to use box 1 (the gross amount of retirement, however, on line 2, taxable amount is clearly stated. How do I correct this error?
It is not clear that this is an error. Let's look at that first.
What is the code in box 7? This can make all the difference in the world. And is this from an IRA or not? The following are general answers based on whether it is from an IRA or not.
Was this 1099-R from an IRA (the IRA/SEP/Simple box next to box 7 should have been checked if it were an IRA)? If the answer is YES, then please see the following from dmertz on a similar issue:
a Form 1099-R with code 7 in box 7 and the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box marked is required by the IRS to have the same amount in box 2a as is in box 1 and box 2b Taxable amount not determined marked. For this reason, TurboTax properly ignores the amount shown in box 2a. You must enter this Form 1099-R exactly as provided by the payer.
The only reason that the taxable amount of this distribution could be less than the full gross amount of the distribution is if you have basis in nondeductible traditional IRA contributions and the taxable amount must be determined through calculations on Form 8606. If you have made a nondeductible traditional IRA contribution for 2022, you must enter that contribution under Deductions & Credits before TurboTax will have that information to include on Form 8606. If you have basis in nondeductible traditional IRA contributions shown on a previous year's From 8606, you must click the Continue button on the page that lists the Forms 1099-R that you have entered and, when TurboTax asks, indicate that you made nondeductible traditional IRA contributions in a prior year and then enter the amount. After TurboTax prepares Form 8606, TurboTax will include the full gross amount on Form 1040 line 4a but will include only the taxable amount on line 4b.
If you have rolled over into your traditional IRAs any after-tax basis from an employer plan and have not previously reported that on Form 8606, you must click the EasyGuide button in this section, mark the box to indicate that you rolled over funds from an employer plan and then enter the amount of after-tax basis rolled over from the employer plan. TurboTax will then prompt you to provide the required explanation for this adjustment to your basis in nondeductible traditional IRA contributions.
Was this 1099-R not from an IRA (the IRS/SEP/Simple box near box 7 is NOT marked)?
In the interview that follows the entry of the 1099-R data, you are asked if this is a qualified plan or not. This answer affects the subsequent screens (I would think that most 401(k) plans if that is what this is, are qualified plans).
You will be asked if you get periodic payments. If YES, then you will be asked if you started receiving distributions prior to this year. If you did, you will be asked if the Box 2a showed the taxable amount in previous years. IF YOU ANSWER YES, then the box 2a amount will be used as the taxable amount. Otherwise, you will be led through a series of questions in which TurboTax attempts to calculate the taxable amount, and the 2a amount is ignored.
In any case, your entries caused box 2a to not be used...now you have to tell us what your entries were.
It won’t let me select save and file until I fix an error I made with one of my CRPs, however, it’s not letting me fix the mistake by deleting the CRP that is the issue or going in to blank it all out. But I have already paid and gotten a receipt, so idk what’s going on. Can’t select the Save and File button due to an error and the system won’t let me go back to original page to delete the offending CRP or blank it all out—Basic Recap
Please follow the instructions here, so we can speak with you by phone and look into this further. @J3nnif3r811204746
I have tried multiple times to remove an incorrectly entered IRA contribution. We did not make an IRA contribution, but it was accidentally entered. I have gone back into Deductions & Credits / Traditional IRA and Roth IRA and checked "None of the above" for my husband and myself, but TT continues to show the incorrect amount (the amount should be zero). Why can't I correct this mistake?
