Why is it so hard to find the "Ask a question" button???????

Every time I come to the TurboTax community to ask a question, it takes me minutes to find a page with an "Ask a question" button it.  Often I never find it and have to come back again later.  What is wrong with this web site?  It's easy to search for existing questions.  Why isn't "Ask a question" on the home page for the community?

Don't even get me started with trying to use this web site on my phone.  I can't even get logged in there.  I'm on my PC right now.

Choose a category for the kind of question you want to ask.  Every category has a blue bubble that says Ask a Question

How can I send feedback to the web site designers?  This is a horrible design.  The "Ask a question" button is not on the Community home page.  It is not on the page with the list of "discussions".  It is not in the list of categories of discussions under, for example, "Taxes".  It is not on a page for a specific question.  You can't search for it with the search feature.  No, you have to know to drill down to the FOURTH layer of breadcrumbs to find it.  How intuitive is that?

Now, here's my "OK, Boomer" complaint.  I don't see that the tile layout and images add ANYTHING to the functionality or ease of use of the site.  Traditionally designed web forums include a standardized vocabulary:

A "new post" or "question" or "topic"

A "comment" or "answer" or "response" (or "post")

A "thread" or "discussion" that consists of a "new post" or "question" or "topic", together with the "comments", "answers", "responses", and "posts" that are associated with it

A "forum" or "subforum" or "category" or "area" that is a collection of related "threads" or "discussions"

A "community" that includes all of the "forums", with or without other content.

Normally, there is a text list of forums and subforums, either on the home page for the forum/community or on a page that is clearly identified as a list of forums.  There may be a list of topics/questions/threads on the same page underneath each forum/subforum/category/area heading, or you may have to click on a specific forum/subforum/category/area to get to a separate page with the list of questions/topics/threads for that forum/subforum/category/area.  I have never seen it done the way this forum does, with having to dig down so many layers to finally get to a list of topics where you can actually post a question.  And the pages are NOT identified as to what layer of organization they are.  What is labeled here as "Discussions" is, in fact, a collection of collections of collections of discussions.  And the meaningless pictures and space-wasteful layout make it much harder to see what the organization is.

Furthermore, traditional forums have a "Help" page that is help for using the forum itself.  I've usually found those pages to be superfluous, but it would have been really helpful here.

Now that I have finally found an "Ask a question" button and identified the major point of confusion in how this site is organized, I've bookmarked it to make my life easier next time.  But, please either forward my feedback to the powers-that-be, or let me know where I can submit it.  Thank you.

I am with you on this.  Not only is it almost impossible to get help (my returns failed to e-file for the third year in a row!) Just now tried to send an email for help and they're closed?  Last year I will be using Turbo Tax

@mwacc E-mail has never been one of the ways to contact customer support at TurboTax.

Phone support is not provided with the Free Edition.  If you are using a paid version of the software or if you purchased PLUS you can get phone support when customer support is there.  Otherwise, post your question here and someone will try to help.

How can I send feedback to the web team for the Community requesting they provide navigation instructions to the "Ask a Question" buttons that are easy to find:

- at https://ttlc.intuit.com, or

- at https://ttlc.intuit.com/community, or

- at https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/home/misc/03/en-us (where both of the above are redirected to), or

- at https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/discussions/discussion/03/302 (where the "Discuss" button at the top of the home page page links to -- not the list of discussion forums, as the naive web site user would expect, but the list of discussion forum categories), or

- behind a link labeled "Help" or "Web Site Help" or "Community Help" on one of the above pages or, better, in the web site page template's top or bottom header

[all of which are intuitive places to navigate to from the home page], or

- findable using the Search feature

OR, better still (IMO), put the Ask a Question button itself in one of these prominent locations, and if necessary, make one of the parameters to the search query form be what discussion forum you want to search in (though I'd rather have a global search, myself).

Again, HOW DO I PROVIDE FEEDBACK TO THE WEB DESIGNERS?

Thanks,

Rebeccah

Lol.  I did a search on how to ask a question here and this came up.  Ok so you got to go 3-4 layers into a topic.  Got it.

I'm asking the same question. Been looking for fifteen minutes. 🙂 Why are ALL forums this way? The "post new thread" is always a secret/

Thank you for this. I"m still looking right now (fifteen minutes and counting). But I have to slightly disagree with you. I find almost ALL FORUMS as annoying as this. The "Ask" or "Start a Thread" is often hidden in some secret, magical place. 🙂 A new book titled, "SLUDGE, how it affects our daily lives and what to do about it," is what this is. The Rabbit hole of wasting time. Hurdles, hoops, Asterisks and Footnotes. Is what we do in America.

The question isn't about where the answer is. The question is WHY is the answer what it is. Rebecca is absolutely correct. The issue is this question shouldn't have to be asked. Everyone isn't born with the knowledge of what every web designer is choosing to do based on whatever they feel is aesthetically pleasing, contemporary or awesome. If you need a tutorial every time you visit a website, perhaps it isn't the user's problem. Thanks.

@TuckerdogAVL I get it.   For what it's worth, many of us who reply to questions on this forum do not "love" the design, either.  But at least now you know how to post a question and how to navigate the forum.

Did you e-file your state tax return and was it accepted?

You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "

Transmit my returns now

".

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product.

If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

@GrannyBerg You have posted to multiple threads in the forum, so it is clear that you do know how to post questions.

As for your state refund:

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities,  There is no rule as to which one will come first or how much time there will be between their arrivals.

STATE RETURN

Make sure your state return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

Actually, GrannyBerg has only posted to or cheered existing threads, including this one and a few others.

Many forums promote a one-question-per-thread policy -- if someone reading a thread has a question of their own rather than a reply or comment about the original question of the thread, the person is encouraged (or, in some forums, required) to start his or her own thread.  However, if one is not able to locate the "Ask a question" button, then one is not able to start one's own thread here.  One can only post off-topic questions to existing threads - which, arguably, does not demonstrate knowing "how to post questions," at all.

It is fortunate for that hapless forum user if posting a new question as a reply to an unrelated one does not violate the norms here, and still stands a chance of getting answered anyway (especially since the Ask a Question buttons are buried so far down in the navigation and hard to find unless you already know where they are).  It's definitely NOT a given on some other forums.

I'm guessing that TT prefers that users search for questions that are already answered. Trouble is, questions are rarely asked in a way that matches my exact problem, which I may be asking in a different way than others asked it.  I agree finding an answer is incredibly frustrating on this site. I spend more time getting a question answered than it takes to do the return.

Fact one: The greater majority of users do their taxes *once* a year.

Fact two: No one needs a bookmark for something that is only needed once in a blue moon.  Who even remembers the next year that there's a bookmark in the long list of bookmarks to use again?

I am not a Boomer but Yes! First they took away third level support and now you can't even find the button to ask a question. These were the competitive edges of this product. Still waiting for someone online to answer my questions (which I can't even search for by owner).
