It takes some time to incorporate IRS forms into TurboTax. While they may be available from the IRS on a given date, we need a few days to make the forms available for use in TurboTax.
Use this tool to look up when your individual tax forms will be available in TurboTax. You can search by TurboTax product and for IRS or state-specific forms.
Keep checking back for updates.
You can also use the link below to review the filing instructions and view Form 8936 so you will be prepared to complete your return as soon as the Form is available.
This is ridiculous, it's the morning of 2/9 and I've been waiting to e-file my taxes because this year I have the EV tax credit. I've had my filing completed since 1/30 and nothing but delay after delay due to Turbo Tax. I've used this software for years and this will DEFINITELY be the last year I use it!
I was told I couldn't e-file initially until 2/2 then 2/9 and now I have a message stating to leave my email because they will notify me when they've made updates for this particular form. I want to know if I can get my money back so I can go file my taxes using some other software that is better prepared.
I should have my refund in my account already.
We do not have access to your account in this public forum. If you would like to inquire about a refund, please feel free to contact Customer Support so they can assist you. You will want to use the keywords billing issues when you call so you get to the right person.
I just want to know what's the hold up to tax for 8936. I purchased my EV in January of 2022 and it seems like I am being held up because of some changes from August, 2022 for new purchasers and 2023 owners. Ford hasn't hit their 200,000 units mark and I should be able to bypass all the red tape that may be causing delays.
The status from this link. Now says "Ready Soon" Is that today, tomorrow next week, next month?
That tool says 8936 will be available in TurboTax today. It's not. Based on her EV purchase date, my daughter needs to file before later this month. Getting worried if she'll make the deadline.
@tomnteena wait, there's a time frame during which you need to file or you lose it? how long is that??
And, c'mon TurboTax! What's with the endless delays? The form is up on the IRS website. Please get it built.
Maybe not a federal deadline, but based on what my daughter told me her 1040 needs to be filed before about a week from now so she can submit it to her State and get some sort of State rebate.
arggggh, this is so frustrating. This "Turbo Tax form 8936 gate", is going to cost Turbo Tax big time next year. They've lost lots of customers by not getting on top of this and at least letting folks know what the hold up is, and a realistic deliverable date.
IRS Form 8936 (rev. Jan 2023) is available for download from the irs.gov/pub website.
What's up with the delay in it being available in TurboTax?
It is February 9th and this keeps getting pushed back.
For those of us that you are delaying the filing of our taxes, are you going to offer some sort of credit?
Not happy!
Don
Hi,
Since it appears that TurboTax, the application, may be behind on uploading/updating the various federal and state tax forms; then, maybe TurboTax should include the option for the customers to upload the applicable forms to be filed with their state and federal taxes. Just a thought.
Don
In addition to the delay in this form, why don't Turbo Tax reply to the comments here? Clearly there are many of us waiting on this and frustrated with the delay.
NOW ON TURBO TAX IT SAYS THE FORM TODAY 2/10 IS READY SO WHEN YOU IPDATE YOUR SOFTWARE IT STILL DOES NOT UPDATE & YOU STILL CAN NOT FILE
Ready for print?
Ready for E-file?

What is the TurboTax phone number?

True in 2024, too? I filled out everything on my 2023 taxes and it says form 8936 is not yet available so I have to wait, but the IRS has had the 2023 8936 up on its website. And this thread shows the problem was last year, too?
Question for Intuit Customer Service: Is this an error that my desktop TurboTax is saying that 8936 isn't yet available, or is it really that Intuit hasn't incorporated it into TurboTax again?
The IRS Form 8936 Clean Vehicle Credit for tax year 2023 has not been finalized in TurboTax.
The form is scheduled to be available on 02/21/2024.
Go to this TurboTax website for forms availability - https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product...
I started reading this message thinking it was for tax year 2023. Apparently, Intuit had the same problem for 2022 and is still delayed in getting 8936 ready. There's been no change to the form so I'm not sure why there's a delay in having it ready. Delaying filing for a credit of this amount is going to cause a lot of people problems. Intuit needs to do better in this regard.
Any chance you can get the Moderators to contact the folks creating the Forms list?
Get them to move the 8936 to at least one day later....like Thursday the 22nd instead of Wed the 21st?
That might avoid at least some of the screaming.
_______
The 1040X too is listed as the 21st, and that won't happen (OK, 80% won't happen)...one more day later....heck, looking at the not-ready list, those not ready are all listed as Wednesdays, which almost never happens. Change any not ready to one, or even two days later !
@SteamTrain I requested that the dates be changed to Thursdays back on January 11, 2024. Other than the reply back that they would forward the request....nothing was done.
DoninGA I just used your link. It says form 8936 is available, but it's not.
Can you explain? Pretty frustrating.

All I can tell you is that the Form 8936 is available in the TurboTax desktop CD/Download editions for tax year 2023 and does NOT have the red Do Not File entered at the top of the form.
Have you updated your software to the latest release?
Make sure you go thru the Clean Vehicle Credits Q&A again from start to finish.
Once the forms are (were?) updated, there may be new questions that must be answered after the update, and it's possible that those may be blocking you.
If you followed the steps recommended by @DoninGA and @SteamTrain and are still not able to use Form 8936, try manually updating TurboTax Online as explained in this help article:
If you're having trouble updating your TurboTax 2023 for Windows Individual software using the "Check for Updates" method, here are instructions for how you can get the latest federal program update:
Logging out of TurboTax and back in, changing browsers, or clearing your cache and cookies often helps.
Thanks for the advice, MonicaK1.
Yesterday, I went back in. Once again, TurboTax said I had one more step to finish, and once again showed a partial image of an unavailable tax form. However, the writing above indicated that this time, the form was 8911, which is a form to claim tax credit for EV charging property, a business credit. At that point I called customer support, and after the usual recorded options, and me insisting "agent", I got a wonderful agent who joined me on the computer and fixed it. Magically, I was then able to finish and file. My return is now in the friendly hands of the IRS and FTB.
This is a bad look for TurboTax. Apparently, form 8936 has been available for some time (as you said), but I was never notified. Why it substituted form 8911 is a mystery to me and the agent. He said he would bring these matters up to the next level, but who knows? He also kindly gave me a $30 credit for next year, but again, we'll see. For all the work and time I spent on this, I should be made a VP of Intuit.
Again, thanks for all the effort on this forum to help.
