Taxes owed

I sent in the wrong amount that I owed on my taxes. The feds already cashed it, but the paperwork has not been processed. Do I just wait?

well if you sent too much, just wait.   if you sent too little, then you are going to owe the taxes + probably late payment taxes and interest. wait for the bill.

did you pay more than you owed or less? 

if you still owe, send in another check for the difference

if you are now due a refund, wait for everything to process - they may send back the difference automatically

I owe more. I shorted the check.

then just send in the difference..... the sooner the better because there may be some interest charges later.   Making the payment will shut off the interest clock.
