Not letting me add a W-2 manually I didn't have a W-2 in 2020, but in 2021 I have a W-2. 2021 TT won't show screen in Fed Tax section to manually or import new W2 data

When I select to walk through Fed Tx section on my own, the provided list starts out with Wages and Salaries saying "update" status even though there is no W-2 from 2020.  When I select "update" it goes to blank screen.  When I select "Import Summary" "view" and press Add W-2, get blank screen again (no list option to pick any company)

Ok ... if running a program update will not cure your issues  then I suggest doing an uninstall  and then a reinstall of the program.   Also make sure your OS is up to date ... any OS updates not installed can sometime cause issues.  So the OS updates and reboot at least twice to make sure they were installed.

Did you try just going to Federal>Wages and Income?

Try clearing your cookies and/or switch browsers.

Hello!   So occurs to me this morning that I am actually using the Tt2021 cd…. So not sure cookies apply?  Other thoughts?

Your original question was posted from online.   Are you really using your desktop program?   Did you "log in" to an online account by mistake instead of opening up the program from your own hard drive?  We cannot tell from your post what software you are in right now, but we do see people who make that mistake--so gotta ask.

Hello!  Yes, started with federal taxes -> wages and income -> and that I would select my own.  So got the full listing,  but for wages and salaries it doesn’t have a “start” button, rather it has an “update” button. Pressing it, goes to blank screen.  Pressing import summary view button, and press “add w-2”, again goes to blank screen.

True… is there a cd-focused group?

No,I’m not (was not) in a browser…never done my taxes with online software… always cd back to 1990s

Hello!

So, uninstalled the TT2021, reinstalled from CD, updated software from TT, transferred over 2020, started return, got to Federal, same issues. Insists to set button as "update" rather than "start".

Win10 is saying current.

 

Side note, tried to pursue downloading/install the software from TT (rather than CD) hoping that software would be correct, I got the same problem apparently people a year ago where TT says the license code is already in use "elsewhere" (and not in my download area)...

I got around the problem seemingly by loading on a different windows machine with a different intel chip….

Same issue here.  Trying to add W-2, or import W-2, the center window will go blank. 

This is on my Win11 AMD laptop.

 

Tried uninstall and reinstall, does not work.

Tried forcing a manual update, does not work.

Works fine on my 6 years old laptop running win 10, what a bummer.

Same problem here - CD Deluxe version on Windows 10 but had W-2 in 2020.

I transferred the 2020 return and  I can see them in the forms section.   I started entering the W2 in the forms section.   I entered one of the employers and do see the compensation on the 'step by step' but still get the blank screen when I press update.

Update...it must have been fixed.  Try updating your program.  Go up to Online - Check for updates

Turbo Tax is updated almost everytime I go into it.   I updated Windows 10.

Still blank screen for Wages and Income.

I included a link but basically you need to run TurboTax as an administrator.  It was PAINFULLY SLOW so I suggest doing the rest of the return first and come back to the W-2s.   Maybe it was only the W-2s that were slow, the review, etc seemed to be normal.

thank you, I right clicked on the Icon and selected run as administrator. Selected continue my return and immediately was asking me if I wanted to work on my wife's or my w2.

I am having the same issue. I cleared data, closed all apps, updated TTAX, re-booted, and tried again. Blank screens for adding W-2's.

Search for W-2 and use the Jump to W-2 link from the search results to get to the entry screen.   Log out or close TurboTax and then re-open your tax return before searching.  And make sure you are all the way in your return before searching.   The search won't work from the Tax Home screen.   Skip Import and Upload - choose I'll type it manually.    @pjbnorth
