My return has been rejected because I haven't included a 1095 a form. I didn't have insurance through the marketplace in 2021. I had insurance through work. What to do

The link here has been removed. Is there a way to sign up for updates once this issue is resolved?

If the IRS rejected the return for a missing 1095-A then check with the ACA to see if you had one issued in error or maybe it covered a small part of the beginning of 2021 ... https://www.healthcare.gov/

They make the form available online  way before the forms come in the mail ... I still have not seen any of these forms yet ... they have until Monday to put them in the post so you may not get it in the mail until sometime in Feb.

I’m informed that they are aware of the issue. Update your program in a week.

There are 2 issues ... the program has a glitch which will be addressed.  Seems if you had a 1095-A on the 2020 return the 2021 return insists on you having one as well.

Then there is the returns that actually get filed and are rejected by the IRS :

Why is my return being rejected with code F8962-070 for a missing 1095-A?

SOLVEDby TurboTax4Updated 16 hours ago

Some TurboTax Online customers may experience an issue when going through the final review of their return. When prompted with the question, Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan? and then selecting, No, I didn't receive Form 1095-A, some customers have reported that the response reverts to Yes, I received Form 1095-A.

Customers experiencing this issue have two options:

  1. Login to your healthcare.gov account, download Form 1095-A and re-efile your tax return; or
  2. Wait to receive your Form 1095-A in the mail. The ACA Marketplace will begin mailing these out on January 31, 2022.

My taxes were rejected due to no 1095A form but I called marketplace and I don’t have a 1095A form at all they confirmed it but turbo tax is not allowing me to click no I did not receive 1095A form which is holding me back filing my taxes. I don’t know what to do cause it won’t let me change it. I’ve been trying all week. I don’t want to refile and rejected again.

I am having the same issue. My taxes have been rejected by the IRS 4 times today. Several representatives from Turbotax have helped me fix the issue by going to the failed tax, under Federal/Deduction and Credits/Medical and selecting there that I do not have or will receive a 1095-A. This should fix the issue, but it does not! I noticed that after you select NOT, and continue, at the going when going back to review the change took effect, it still in YES. There is a bug here I am thinking, the form get defaulted to YES all the time. This is really annoying. I will be taking my business with a traditional accountant I guess.

This is not good as the pople complaining about this do not receive such form 1095-A! The turbo tax web form is resecting the YES option after we click "No"! The website is clearly broken, I am a Senior Software engineer and wonder how a bug like this made it to a production site as big as Turbo Tax!

So I was advised that even though there is a glitch in the system and if you don’t have a 1095 still put a little information you should put 0 in the marketplace Identifier box and policy number box then put $1 in the 3 January boxes. I did this and was accepted.

Try removing the 1095-A that was started.   Both the Form 1095-A and Form 8962 need to be removed from TurboTax if you do not have a Form 1095-A   If you remove the 1095-A, the 8962 form will be deleted with it.

To delete the 1095-A from TurboTax, when you are signed into your tax return:

  1. Search for 1095-A or search for 1095-a and use the Jump to 1095-a link to be taken to the questions.

  2. Answer the question about unemployment and the next screen will show your 1095-A that was started.

  3. Use the Delete button or the trash can icon depending on your version to delete the form.

  4. Confirm the deletion.

You can also delete the form in Forms Mode, if using the desktop software or by clicking on Tax Tools (left side menu) >>> Tools >>> Delete a form in TurboTax Online.

Once the form is gone, TurboTax will accept a NO answer and you can then re-submit your tax return.  If you get rejected again with the same code, use the healthcare.gov portal to verify what forms are on file for each social security number on your tax return.   Someone in your family received Advance Premium Tax Credit in 2021.  It could be one of your dependents that has erroneously been listed on another policy you are unaware of.   @ernestojo

This does not work. My Turbo Tax screen does not look like that. I have also tried goint to tax Tools and manually deleting the form, but it does not appear there. I have spoken to several Turbo Tax reps and all have provided a solution and then after I sent my taxes they are rejected once again due to the missing 1095-A. This is ridiculous.

I also removed my dependent, we decided to file separately. And yet same error

I am having the same issue. Resubmitted 3 times so far and it continues to be rejected. I dont have a 1095-A. I called market place and was told that since I personally did not have insurance thru them i will be unable print a 1095-A.  Also they can not generate on at "zero".

I do have a dependent who has her own policy thru the market place. Can this be the issue in my case???. I have been trying for over a week now and its getting ridiculous that after 6 years of using this program to now have to deal with this issue.

Yes, if you have a Dependent on your return who had insurance through the Marketplace, you need to enter their 1095-A in your return.

Since your dependent is a member of  your household, 'you' received any Advance Premium Credit that they received.

Based on my experience and what I have read and I have discussed with Turbo Tax reps you need to enter the 1095-A from your dependent. The program it's terribly designed as it does not say for whom the 1095-A is required, it just defaults to YES and then your return is rejected. No Turbo Tax rep that I have shared my screen with knows why this is happening. They're all really nice but end up saying I need to call marketplace like you did, only to find out I do not need a 1095-A. Horrible Software stopping people from filing their taxes. I wanted to start a clean return and enter everything again but I cannot because I already paid the fee. Like WTF!

Try Vanessa A's workaround.    You can try to enter $1 for the 1095-A.   This will not affect anything on your return, but having the form there may get the IRS to accept your return.  To do this take the following steps:

  1. Verify you do not have a 1095-A at healthcare.gov
  2. Search for 1095-A, use the Jump to 1095-A link.
  3. Click Update or Edit next to the ACA
  4. You will be asked if you received a 1095-A, click YES.
  5. Enter all zeros for the Marketplace identifier and Policy number.
  6. Enter $1 for January's monthly premium amount and SLCSP.
  7. Resubmit your return.

That should get your return filed.

I spoke to TT today and yesterday. They recommended to mail income tax. This is their best advice.

If you have e-filed your return and gotten an IRS rejection code F8962-070, it  could be because there is a partial entry in your return or because they have information from Healthcare.gov about Marketplace insurance and are looking for a 1095-A on your return to match their records. This might be because you or someone on your return began an application for insurance but did not actually enroll or for some reason Healthcare.gov erroneously has something connected to a social security number on your return. Forms 1095-B and 1095-C do not need to be filed and should be kept with your tax records. Please do not enter their information into TurboTax.

When our interview section Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A) for the Marketplace insurance reaches the screen Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan? it will default to "Yes"If you select "No" and Continue, it will not generate any Form 8962 information into your return. If you come back, it will default to "Yes" again, but it remained the "No" you selected until the time you came back into the area. This is as it should be.

To be sure there is not a partially completed form in TurboTax, please check here to delete the form from your return. This will delete both the form and the entries.

  • To Delete a Form go black menu bar on the left
  • Click on Tax Tools
  • Click on Tools
  • Under Other helpful links, click on Delete a Form
  • Scroll down and check for 1095-A or 8962 and if there is one, click on Delete
  • Click on the blue Delete Selected Form
  • At the bottom Continue
  • At the bottom Continue with my Return

If you have already checked online at Healthcare.gov for 1095-A information and do not find what you need, you may wish to call them and see if there is any reason they would have told the IRS to expect a Form 1095-A.  You may reach them at:

1-800-318-2596

(TTY: 1-855-889-4325)

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (except holidays)

Once you have resolved the Healthcare.gov information, the IRS should accept your e-file. In the past, they would accept the e-file but then route the returns with Marketplace questions for special processing that caused significant delays. This way the issue can be addressed and your e-file should not be further delayed after it is accepted.

If you have a different rejection code, please post it here and we will investigate.

I'm having the exact same issue. I can't even erase and start over. May have to use another company such as tax act.

If you enter $1 to each line of form 1095-A you can submit you income tax.
