If you have not paid for TurboTax  then you can downgrade to the free version by using the Clear & Start Over option.

  • With TurboTax open select tax tools in the left-hand panel.

  • Then select Clear & Start Over.

  • Select yes when asked are you sure you want to clear your return.

I have completed my return, have not paid, but do not need the "self employed " version. (I have no idea how this option  got selected) I do not want to clear everything I've spent two days entering, but do not want to pay an extra $60 that I don't need to.   Is this Turbo Tax's way of holding users hostage to pay more than they need to?  I have no "self employed" entries on my return.  Am I to understand my only option is to pay the extra $60 or lose everything I've entered?

I've asked this question 5 different ways on the site, but can't a straight answer. I'm so frustrated.

You can review your fees by following the instructions below.

  1. After signing in to TurboTax, open or continue your return.
  2. Select Tax Tools on the left side of the screen and then Tools.
  3. A Tools Center box will pop up on your screen.
  4. Select the My Fees box on the right.

If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons:
