I want to refile my rejected state return without refiling my federal return which was accepted. How do I do it?

Your federal will not efile for a second time. Your state will efile on its own.

Same question. First I ask for both to be efiled. Then, when I try to refile Turbotax first shows the Federal form has been accepted and the state form can be electronically sent. When I ask for this then Turbotax tells me 'to efile, you must also select the federal return' and only allows me to go 'Back'. I did see at one point in turbo tax that I would see 'efile again' and never did see that!?!?! Anyone have input on this?

@SammyIAm Please follow the stems in the following FAQ to fix the rejected return: How do I fix a rejected return?

Thanks for the reply. I had gone through the correction process before. My issue is ... When I tried to re efile my state form Turbotax said I had to efile my federal form also. Turbotax had already told me that the federal form had been successfully efiled. I'm guessing it would therefore not re efile it. So I'm caught in an endless loop here. Also, since I have efiled my state tax forms through Turbotax before I am required by the state to efile now!

@SammyIAm What does your E-file Status show? Does it show pending or that it has been accepted by the IRS? If it has not been accepted yet, then that is the reason for this issue. Once the IRS accepts the Federal, you can then resubmit your State.

If that is not the issue, please see the TurboTax Article below:

Why am I not able to e-file my state return after filing my Federal return?

I'm having the same problem. My Federal return was accepted but my State rejected. I corrected the State, attempted to re-file but get into the same endless loop as described by @SammyIAm. When I check my E-file status, it shows the Federal return was "Accepted," so that it not the source of the problem.

I have the same problem -- my fed was accepted - my state rejected (for a silly typo I made).  The error has been fixed.  It says I have to file my fed in order to file my state.  My fed has been filed and accepted.  I called the TurboTax number - No help!!! a waste of time!!  There is a technical glitch in the system and needs to be fixed -- quickly.

Hi @dsinason, see the end of this thread,  https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-how-do-i-refile-a-rejected-state-only-return-after-correcting-it-not-the-federal-which-has/01/2074483#M746580..

@Cass0317 acknowledged there's a software glitch and provided a link to sign up for email notifications re: updates.

It's awfully late in the tax season for a bug this serious not to be fixed. I live in New York, where we're required to e-file--and tax preparation software companies are required to provide free e-filing. I paid the big bucks for the "Home and Business" version, which TurboTax forces me to use, so I'm pretty angry.
