The TurboTax CD/Download has a unique license code that is required to verify your software license and complete installation. It’s a 14-character combination of letters and numbers (XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX) that can be found:

  • On your CD box insert, envelope, or packing slip; or
  • In your Download confirmation email and/or order history.

Enter it in the License code box on the activation screen, and select Continue to complete installation.

You’ll only need to enter it and validate the first time you install on a computer. You can, however, install the software on up to five of your computers using the same license code. If you need more, you’ll need to purchase another TurboTax license.

If you need help installing, we can help with Windows and Mac .

Your post shows the Online Deluxe version not the CD program.  Did you get the CD installed?   On Windows or Mac?

Did you already start in the Online version?  Sorry you can't apply the Desktop purchase to the online version.  They are separate things and don't talk or sync to each other.  You can move your online return to the Desktop program without paying for online so you don't need to start over.

It may be related to a screen resolution or scaling problem.

In your Windows settings do you have scaling set to a higher value than the normal 100%?  If so, change it back to 100%.   Once the license code is entered and activated, you can later change it back like it was.

If not a scaling problem, then try a screen resolution of 800x600.  Once you get the license activated, you can change your resolution setting back like it was.

Read through the following thread and see the various recommendations there:

Are you on Windows 10?  See this post for a couple things to try like changing your screen resolution to 800x600

I've got a 16 digit code.  No Activation screen to Enter it into.  Can anybody recommend a Fix?

Are you using the Windows version?   And have you done the TurboTax install, and at the end of installation do you encounter a missing or blank activation screen popup?     See if this workaround assists you:

In Windows 10 go to the Display settings and review/adjust your scaling and resolution settings.  Here's how to get there:

Click the Windows start icon in lower left corner of your screen or press the Windows key on your keyboard.  Then choose Settings (gear icon), then System, then Display.

Once you are there, do you have scaling set to a higher value than the normal 100%?  If so, change it back to 100%. Once the license code is entered and activated, you can later change your scaling setting back like it was.

If lowering the scaling to 100% didn't help, then it may be screen resolution.  New computers are often set a very high screen resolution.   Try a lower screen resolution such as 800x600.  Once you get the license activated, you can revert your resolution setting back like it was.
