I am running the download version of TurboTax 2024 on a Windows 11 PC, and I am at the stage where it asks for my last year's return. When I click the Browse button, I get the File Open dialog box, but when I click "Personal Vault", it returns the error "...\OneDrive\Personal Vault is not accessible. The path cannot be traversed because it contains an untrusted mount point." An obvious 'solution' would be to copy my .tax2023 file onto my local computer, but that defeats the purpose of the Personal Vault.
I saw this. However, I am using a special licensed version from Fidelity, and I am concerned that creating a 'dummy' file may increment some counter (normally, you get 5 federal e-files, but this license only allows one).
Did Intuit remove this capability as a security fix, or did they just bungle it?
Are you using the Desktop program you install on your computer OR the Online browser version? I don’t know what “special” version Fidelity has. It’s probably just the regular Online version . Once you have the .tax2023 moved to your hard drive you can transfer it into the Online version.
You can Transfer the prior year from the Desktop program into the current Online versions. You need to have the file ending in .tax2023 on your computer. So be sure you know where it is. But if you already started an online return you will have to clear it out and start over or set up a new online account. How to clear and start over
How to transfer into the Online version, expand the link if you used the CD/download last year........

And How to switch from Desktop to Online
If you used the Desktop program before you may not like the Online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. All the Online versions do not have the same forms so you may need to upgrade to a higher version. You can only do 1 return. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2024 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.
