e.mailing Fed tax return via Turbotax

My 2021 e-filing was rejected by the IRS claiming my AGI of 2020 did not much their acceptance criteria, saying:

"The primary taxpayer's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year does not match IRS records."

I double checked the AGI and is correct!  Also, I have seen the IRS transcript of my 2020 return on the IRS website, the AGI number match the AGI on my tax return!

So, I'm 100% right I typed the correct AGI value in my return but my return was rejected again.  I did not e.File last year and therefore I do not have a PIN number. So, I used a random 5 digit number. Is the rejection a PIN issue?  if so how can I fix it?

If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2020 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2020 AGI might not be in the IRS system.   Try using zero instead.

If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

There is a good possibility that the IRS does not have your 2020 AGI in their database.

Enter a 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI and e-file the 2021 tax return again.

You did not enter the correct PIN number.  Should be 5 digits.  It might be somewhere on your federal info sheet for last year.  Look for transposed  digits.

If the IRS has not processed my 2020 return it would not have my AGI.  I resubmitted with AGI=0 and it was rejected again.  So, your response was a guess!

No, it was not a guess!

IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/electronic-filing-pin-request

Special Instructions to Validate Your 2021 Electronic Tax Return

If your 2020 tax return has not yet been processed, enter $0 (zero dollars) for your prior year adjusted gross income (AGI).

If you used the Non-Filers tool in 2021 to register for an advance Child Tax Credit payment or third Economic Impact Payment in 2021, enter $1 as your prior year AGI.

If the IRS has rejected the 2021 e-filed tax return when the correct 2020 AGI was entered and rejected the tax return when a 0 was entered, your only option is to print and mail the tax return.
