Changing my W-4

Hi there!

I am a single woman who has 0 dependents and still owed $1500. I need to figure out what and how I need to change my W-4 to make sure I am getting the most out of it.

Hello

This is a great questions, I understand you are filing as single with no dependents.  When you prepared and filed your tax return you owe $1,500.

I would do the following:

1. Check your withholding status with your employer to make sure it has your correct status (Single and No Dependents)

2.  Then I would complete the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator, this will assist you in determining if your current withholdings are on track for this year.

After completing the Tax Withholding Estimator, if it is determined you need additional withholdings, you can complete and provide your employer a new 2024 IRS Form W-4.   On the Form, Step 4 (c) will give you an option for Extra Withholding that can be taken out by your employer on each pay period.
