Can't install TurboTax Home and Business after installing TurboTax Deluxe

Hi. I installed TurboTax Deluxe 2021 on my computer. I realized I wanted the TurboTax Home and Business and bought a new copy at Costco. Costco sent me an email with the download link and a key. I followed the below steps:

 

1 - uninstalled TurboTax Deluxe using the Add and Remove Programs tool from the Control Panel.

2 - clicked the link from the Costco email to download the installer.

3 - clicked on the installer.

4 - the installer does not ask me for the key for the Home and Business version and ends up re-installing the Deluxe version.

 

How do I force the installer to install the new Home and Business version?

Yikes----you did not have to purchase a whole new copy of the CD/download.   You could have just upgraded from Deluxe to Home and Business---and just pay the difference between the price for the two desktop versions of the software.

 

See if you can return the second CD to Costco and get your money back.   Then just download Deluxe again and upgrade.

It was cheaper to buy the new Home and Business from Costco and return the original Deluxe than to upgrade from Deluxe to Home and Business.

 

I still need to find a way to force the new installation to install the Home and Business, not the old Deluxe. Thanks.

@xmasbaby0 Thank you. I ended up calling TurboTax support and the agent helped me. She asked for the key for the Home and Business edition I bought from Costco to verify I owned it. She tried to have me upgrade the program from Deluxe to Home and Business (instead of deleting everything and re-installing). It didn't work because the code she gave me for the upgrade was not accepted. She ended up sending me instructions to do a complete uninstall. It worked. Thank you.

I am on Windows 10. My system does not have the TurboTax folder inside the CommonFiles folder. I ended up following the TurboTax support agent instructions - she asked me to uninstall the Deluxe edition using the Add and Remove Programs in the Control Panel. And then delete a number of folders. It worked. Thank you.

First I uninstall the Turbotax2021 program in "add or remove programs"

My AppData folder is hidden. When I change the "view" to see hidden items in File Explorer, I found the AppData files and delete the TY21 folder.

  • C:/Users/[Your username/]AppData/Roaming/Intuit/TurboTax/TY21. 
  • I restart the computer.
  • Install new Turbotax Home and Business.

It worked. Thanks.

THIS is what worked for me! Thanks! I had previously installed TT deluxe to do my mom's taxes. Then I tried I to install TT Home & business with much frustration! It didnt even ask for the KEY code for H&B software.

I have Windows 10.

Only thing I would add, in the bottom left search box, I had to type %appdata% for that file window to come up.

I've had a few bugs that I feel Intuit should've known to fix in previous years, too. Not a satisfying experience overall. 

I wont be coming back for 2022 tax year.

Received my new TurboTax Advantage disk from Intuit as a recurring yearly renewable. I have the disk inserted in the PC drive and select TurboTax 2022 Installer.exe from he available files. It errors advising error that "This installer cannot be launched directly; Please launch via SetUp.exe." There is no file SetUp.exe on the disk.

Use the download method instead of the CD.  It has more advantages over CD.  Then you can also download it another computer. Once you install the CD you can't install it again like if you need to reinstall the program or install on a different computer.

 

There should be a card in the CD case on on the CD envelope that says how to download it and you will need the 14 or 16 digit code from it to enter.

Same here.  Is this the best turbo tax can do. God knows it takes long enough screwing around with numbers to get taxes filed. What the hell is wrong with turbotax to make everything more difficult than it needs to be?

@jerkedbyyoursoftware   What problem are you having?  You have added on to a very old thread.  Installing is a little different this year.
