In TurboTax online, you will see an option on your Home Page under "Your Account" to "create W-2s and 1099s."  Then follow the QEF program step by step.

If you are a sole proprietor (self-employed), you can use TurboTax Self-Employed Online or TurboTax Home & Business CD/Download.

If you need to file a corporate or partnership return as part of your business, buy TurboTax Business.

TurboTax Quick Employer Forms for 1099-NEC

TurboTax Self-Employed, TurboTax Home & Business and TurboTax Business will link to TurboTax Quick Employer Forms. You can use QEP to prepare and e-file W-2s and 1099s.

If using TT Online, you must first pay the TT fees.

After you pay for the program, you will be able to get to the website to prepare 1099's.

  • Tax Tools
  • Print Center
  • Print, Save or Preview This Years Return
  • Pay Now

Ater the payment is processed, you will be able to click the box that asks if you need to prepare 1099 and get to the Quick Employer Forms website.

Yes, you can prepare 1099 NEC by going to Quick Employer Forms.  As you answer your interview questions, you will reach a page that asks Did you pay any employees in 2021? On that page is a link Help me prepare W2's or 1099's. When you select that link, there will be a link to Quick Employer forms that will appear.

DaveF1006, it looks like QEF is for turbotax business, and I am using Self Employed. Is there a way for me to send 1099-NEC using TurboTax Self Employed? (The online version) Thanks.

@agtt29  You do have a business.  You have a self employed business.

For Online Self Employed version,

Log into your account

Scroll down to Your Account and click on Show

Click on Create W-2s and 1099s

In your return, Anywhere on any screen you see....

Help me prepare and file W-2s and 1099s

Click on it and the side box will open, Then click on Quick Employer Forms in the side box.

Or from the Account Screen it will take you directly to Quick Employer Forms

I believe everyone is correct.  If you previously set up your QEF account, then you just login to it.  If you need a new account, you have to go to TurboTax and pay for the online return first, or be using the desktop program.   That happened with 2019 taxes.  It may have changed this year.
