Being Claimed as a Dependent

I am a 22 year old who graduated college the first week of May 2024. The past few years, I have been claimed as a Dependent per my parents Property Settlement Agreement where it states "Father may claim child as a Dependent until he no longer qualifies". I have had a full time job for the entirety of 2024, and pay for all of my own things except rent. The parent who claims me does not provide anything other than health insurance, I have not lived with that parent since 2022 at the latest. Can I still be claimed as a Dependent? Thanks in advance.

If you have provided over one-half of your own support then no one can claim you as a dependent.

No, you cannot be claimed as a dependent if you provide over half of your own support, as stated by @DoninGA above. In addition, claiming a child as a dependent generally requires that the dependent live with the taxpayer for more than half the year, and is under the age of 19, or under 24 if a full-time student.

To qualify as a student, the person must be, during some part of each of any five calendar months of the year:

    1. A full-time student at a school that has a regular teaching staff, course of study, and a regularly enrolled student body at the school, or
    2. A student taking a full-time, on-farm training course given by a school described in (1), or by a state, county, or local government agency.

This information is found in the Personal Exemptions and Dependents chapter of Publication 17.

You can use the IRS worksheet at this link to help with calculating support.
