Any income limit restriction for free file?

My question is if there is any income cap for using simple returns. Any caps on 1099-INT or 109-DIV etc?

I see free file is for simple returns and a simple return is defined as follows --

*A simple tax return is Form 1040 only OR Form 1040 + Unemployment Income. Situations covered in TurboTax Free Edition include:

  • W-2 income
  • Limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV
  • Claiming the standard deduction
  • Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC)
  • Child tax credits
  • Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G

Thank you

Interest or Dividend income greater than $1,500 requiring a Schedule B would require an upgrade from the Free online edition to the Deluxe online edition.

You can use the TurboTax Free File Program - https://freefile.intuit.com/

IRS Free File Program - https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/
If you are eligible you can use the IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax which is free to file both a federal and state tax return. The IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax edition is a full featured personal tax program and on a separate website from the TurboTax online editions.

To qualify for free 2020 federal and state tax returns with the IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax, you'll need to meet at least one of these requirements:

  • A maximum 2020 adjusted gross income (AGI) of $39,000; or
  • You qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC); or
  • You served as active duty military (including Reservists and National Guard) with a maximum 2020 AGI of $72,000 (you'll also need a military-issued W-2).

Thank you @DoninGA for the links.

My question was regarding  Turbotax Free edition which claims $0 Federal $0 State for Simple returns and I was not sure if Simple returns also meant some income limits. I guess the answer is No.

I think the other information you provided that with 1099-INT > $1500 one would need Sch-B which is not supported in the free edition is also something crucial to remember.
