I did 1099 NEC for Federal but I did not do State.  I already submitted the file to IRS.  How do I file one for state? I am from Texas so I am not used to doing a State filing.   I completed the 1099 NEC for federal and mailed.  How do I do one for State?

TX has no state income tax.  You do not have a TX tax return to prepare.

I am filing one for my son who lives in Chicago (I am from Texas so I am not used to doing a State filing).   I completed the 1099 NEC for federal and mailed.  How do I file one for State of Illinois without redoing the Federal one.  I

Return to the federal account and select the state option. Online, you can  choose the amend option, select add a state.

The program will continue through to prepare the IL return. You can e-file IL (without the federal) or you can mail the return.

Reference: State e-file methods: standalone vs piggyback
