How do I get NYS return to use itemized deductions (using CD)?

If your Itemized Deductions exceed the Standard Deduction for your filing status, TurboTax should automatically choose the Itemized Deductions for your New York return, even if you are using the Standard Deduction on your Federal return. 

You can view your Itemized Deduction amount on your New York return by taking the following steps: 

1.) In the upper right-hand corner, click Forms

2.) On the left side, click Open Form

3.) Type IT-196, open form

4.) Your total will be on Line 49 of this form
