This is a tax advise forum.

  • To use our paid service to help you fill out your income tax return, see What is TurboTax Live?

If you were claimed as a dependent on a 2019 income tax return, you're not eligible for the stimulus. For additional information.

If you weren't claimed as a dependent on a 2019 income tax return, you can claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 income tax return.

If you did not receive your first and/or second stimulus payment or if the amount received is not correct, you can claim it on your 2020 tax return as the Recovery Rebate Credit. You can e-file your return even if you have no taxable income.

In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:

  1. Sign into your account and continue from where you left off
  2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Federal Review on the top of the screen
  3. On the next page titled Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click on Continue
  4. Follow the interview
  5. TurboTax will determine whether you are entitled to any additional stimulus
  6. Any stimulus amount remaining due to you will show as a credit on line 30 of your form 1040.

Even if you normally don't file a return, if you do not receive the second stimulus payment, you can prepare a 2020 tax return for stimulus payments you qualify for, but have not received.

To do this in TurboTax, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Turbotax.com and select the Free version of TurboTax.
  2. Enter your personal information in your return.
  3. Click Federal Review at the top of your screen.
  4. On the screen, Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
  5. You will be asked about the amounts of first round and second round stimulus payments you received
  6. TurboTax will then calculate the amount of stimulus payment remaining that you are still entitled to.  This will show as a credit on line 30 of the 1040.
